If money's tight, why not run on the tires that came on the rims? HPDEs aren't races -- assuming they're decent, buying tires that are a second faster a lap won't make you a better or driver or make the experience more fun.
Reason why I don't want to run the tires that are on the rims now are because they are about 9 years old. They do have about 80% tread left though.. I just don't want them to blow out on me or anything at the track.. And since I plan on getting a new set of tires/rims for the street, I might as well throw some new/stickier tires on the ap1 rims for the track

Just wait until you get hooked. Then you'll spend all your money at the track and not give a rats patooty what you have on the street....

I am hooked. I did 1 hpde on the pocono north course and 1 at NJMP lightening. Both in my old car though which was an 08 civic SI with suspension , brake and other upgrades. Looking forward to hitting the track in the s2k but definitely need some tires worthy of it first.

If you're set on ap1 wheels, get two more rears, and bore them out, so you can run 245 square. Biggest problem is the lack of tire selection though.
Im looking for the same thing, A sticky tire I can use to drive to autocross/track about 80-90 miles round trip each event.

So a 245 wont fit on a stock ap1 6.5 front wheel?

And this is a noob question but what exactly needs to be bored?

245 street tire, no.
245 Hoosier, yes.

The inner face of the wheel has an indented "circle" where it sits on the hub apparatus. Fronts can go on the rears (hence when replacing a flat), but rears don't fit on the front unless you widen the "circle" to fit over the apparatus.

It will fit but it's not ideal. I'd like to have an 8" wide wheel or larger for a 245mm tire.

Assuming the 245 is actually 245mm wide (which it may or may not be), the tire is >20% wider than the 7.5" wheel. Which is too much IMO.

Instead of boring out a set of rears, might want to consider getting 5mm spacers designed for the S2000 and put on longer studs (which came with my spacers). Note.... putting in the longer studs is not a trivial task.

While I was waiting for the 949 wheels, this worked like a champ.
