Default How much power for reliable track setup?

I have a Rotrex supercharged S2000 currently making ~380 horsepower. I have a release valve set to 12 PSI and am running pump gas. More details here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-fo...build-1168726/

Having gotten over some cooling issues I am now seeing good water temps even after 25 minute sessions on hot days. I also replaced a blown diff with a Puddymod unit.

So now that everything is working good, my question is: How much power can I push before things start to break again? I am tempted to crank the boost up a bit, because it would be so easy, but I don't want to run E85 or race fuel. Also I am worried about the drivetrain with the extra power.

Just curious if any other guys running FI with relatively stock setups and having luck with 400+ HP on the track. Also what kind of precautions I should I take to keep things from breaking?

I'm at 404/257 on a 2006, running Comptech/SoS Novi 1200 with stock tranny and diff and track the car about once a month. The car has held up fine during that time. Only issues I've had were not related to the supercharger, but I hear that tracking the Rotorex SC can be challenging as they used to love to chew up belts. Mods made to improve reliability with the SC are Mishimoto Oil cooler, Koyo Radiator, and SoS Racing Heat Exchanger with Bosch Cobra waterpump. I personally would not push past much more than 400whp.

After 480 whp the supercharger is not reliable like a turbo. I would say keep it 400whp on e85 and ur looking at a reliable and fun setup.

Do you have pictures of how you installed the SOS heat exchanger with the sbg oil cooler in place?

You have the larger sos heat exchanger I'm assuming.

Yes it's the "Racing" Heat Exchanger which is mounted in the traditional spot, for the oil cooler it is mounted behind the fake vent on the passenger side. More pictures are available in my build thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/automoti...nside-1152732/

Where are you getting these facts from? And besides getting an SC setup to 480whp would be remarkable and quite the near-impossible task on a rotrex unit.. He also specifically said that he does not want to run E85...

To the OP - I wouldnt worry about increasing slighty the boost to what the kit can make. The TQ that a Rotrex unit makes isnt crazy and is quite smooth. I would say makes for a reliable track setup.

I have the new kraftworks kit too.

I limited boost a different way. My RPM cutoff is 8100. That limits boost to 11.x on pump gas. When I was initially tuning the car I saw 16psi and 420hp. I didn't feel that 16psi was safe on 91 plus on track I've found myself shifting before 8100 just based on turn entry and exit speeds.

If if you want more power you can only do it a couple of ways. Increase boost or run E85 and add all the timing it will take. My plan is a flex fuel setup soon where I can add half a tank of E85 to help fight knock when it gets hot.

Total side note. How are you combating fuel starve? I can do 7 laps at buttonwillow or WSIR from a full tank before it starves on every left hand turn.

I can't speak to that from experience...but I believe this is a common solution:

Fuel Surge Tank Install Kit, S2000 (00-05)

2000 Honda S2000 - Custom Fuel System Assembly - Project S2000 - Modified Magazine

I don't know if it will work in this application, but Holley also has a possible solution: https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/hydramat/

I started getting fuel starve this year with 1/2 full gas tank. If I run full I haven't had any problems, though I haven't tried rcomps yet. I usually go through about 5-6 gallons in a 25 minute session.
