FWIW- it looks like your chains are not crossed. I have been told you want the chains crossed. It will catch the trailer if the towing ball were to fail.
It's the law in PA.
.....and I just trailered my S for the first time. 400 mile round trip.
awesome thread... just helped me out since i was only using straps through the wheels when trailering since i was using a friends trailer... got myself some t hooks and my own trailer now!
sorry guys for bumping such a old thread, but I will be towing my car on a trailer soon and will try to use the T hook method. But i was wondering if doing that method will hit my side diffusers that i installed?

any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Side diffusers? The straps should come out the front and rear of the car. The tie down holes are pretty far inboard for a diffuser / side splitter to be in the way.
I always go through the wheels, i use straps designed for this. Another option is that rennline has some nice brackets they make and i've seen people use them from the furthest rear subframe bolts. Rennline Tie Downs (set of 2)-Rennline, Inc.

Makes me nervous I would mess with the alignment. :/
I very seriously doubt you will be able to apply as much force with a tow strap as your car experiences under load on the track. Even under dynamic load while trailering, you would need to exert >1G side load to equal what your car experiences on track, and your trailer tires just aren't that good.
I bought a set of R-Hooks from Macs tie downs. ~$45 after googling to find an online coupon. They are super beefy, and install in a breeze. I couldn't imagine these things ever coming out, and seems like they will be more gentle on the chassis than a T-Hook.
I like the subframe hooks linked above, but the Porsche tax associated with them kinda sucks.
