Oh well live and learn. I got a do over in this case with minimal to no injuries. Now to get back on the horse.
it's probably totaled. already 23k of damage estimated and they haven't even got to the drive train. I am impressed i suffered absolutely no injuries. Hopefully, they will be done estimating tomorrow. I broke the steering column into a few pieces...that doesn't sound good.

Of course u understeered off u were driving an evo.
Sorry about the crash. The only advice I can add is that when you find you're understeering off, unwind the steering wheel and brake in a straight line, you can kill a lot of speed before running into anything.

Glad OP is okay.
Car is totaled. Now I have to interact with them on how much the settlement is worth. This ought to be interesting. I think I saw a single 06 evo IX SSL in the entire bay area on craigslist last week. There were mostly only dealer cars on autotrader, etc..... any ideas on how i can get a good price for me car?

1. contact me and determine the options that were on my car; be sure to include everything, even if it is "standard".
2. use my address as the center point, and find the 30 closest cars of the same make, model, and year
3. use the listing price of those 30 cars as a base, and then adjust the price up or down, based on miles and options. (e.g. if it has less miles, then the price is adjusted down to make up for the difference; if it is missing an option, then the price is adjusted up to compensate)
4. average the price of the 30 cars after the prices have been normalized for miles and options (and in my case, 2dr vs 4dr, 2dr's are worth more)
That average is what they offered me + tax and the prorated amount for my registration. I accepted the offer.
This includes both private and dealer listings, and is meant to give you replacement value so that you can replace it with an equivalent car. In my case, it did.

I got good value for my car. State farm really came through for me. 90% of the value after four years is amazing.
