On your first day out, GET A RIDE with an ADVANCED driver. Definite E-ticket ride. Everyone is very cool at these events and love to talk about their rides. You will see that you are no where close to driving like these guys and this will relax you...ie they are controlled drifting in the turns, late braking into turns, cars are race tuned, they have 40+ track days to your zero.

Also at first, you are LOST on the course anyways since you have never seen it...most have blind turns, elevation changes, double apexes etc. Seat time is the only way to get confortable.

If you feel you must do something prior to your first day, I'd recommend bleeding your brake fluid and replace with ATE blue or some other hi temp fluid. Just remember you are a NOOB and have lots to get use to. You WILL have the time of your life

If you're hooked after your first event, go out and buy a race car...any race car. Spec Miata, Corvette, M3, whatever. Instead of spending another 20K on turning your sweet stock S2000 into a $10k stripped racer no one wants to buy, go buy someone elses moneypit.

But you'll never know until you get your ass out there!

1/2 of the fun's building it yourself if you have the skilz. I agree, buying into a turnkey setup's cheaper though. The value of race car's pretty damn low.

Damn, you guys have me thinging about a miata now.
