Was at Laguna Seca this past weekend and...
many cars ate shit. It was rainy for the first half of the day. What I noticed was that many areas of the tracks and drainage stuff that people nailed and lost a wheel etc. I believe turn 5 and 9 has them. Both of those cars would have survived if it was only dirt. They probably should drive better and so on, but just looking to talk a little about it.
It was when they went off the track. It's just not sand when you off. Most of these guys lost a rim/ate shit on the drainage cement canals. Just seeing if you guys ever noticed them off the track. Maybe check it out next time...when driving by and not into it.
The goal is to not leave the tarmac or sh*t happens..

Laguna is a bad track on which to go off the pavement. Lots of close walls, deep gravel, and the drains you mention. The last two times I drove there, cars were totaled and ambulances rolled. Probably not as dangerous as Sonoma Raceway, but close. It's not a track to go all time-attack mode. Save that for Buttonwillow!
The drain in the corkscrew is huge, just getting close to it is no bueno. Turn 5 if you get sideways and fight it, since its slightly cambered I can see how you're going to get bit by the snap back oversteer. Turn 6 will get you the same way but you can hit it pretty hard if you're brave. 8a to 9 you have to tread lightly, its banked but overspeed and you're not going to have a nice time. I loved that track though.
