Lap timer recommendations?
Anyone out there know where I can score a good but inexpensive lap timer that will stick to my steering wheel (but come off after the track days ) and also have the memory capacity to "remember" previous lap times while timing the current lap???

It won't mount on your steering wheel (which I think is a good thing, because a steering wheel is no place for a hard object to be mounted), but the best bang-for-the buck system on the market is Longacres' Hot Lap Timer. It has the ability to display last lap time, current lap progress, and your last 60 laps. You can mount the display securely and in your field of vision. If you're really stretching your budget, you can pick up just the timer and rely on the fact that 99% of the time, someone else has put a transmitter out on track already.

MM,
What ever you do, DO NOT put the timer on the steering wheel... Just imagine becoming one with the timer if the airbag ever deployed. One of the best places i've seen for placement is zip tied to the left air vent. Still a potential hazard in a crash but better then the steering wheel.

The in-car part of the Hot Lap system is two pieces: the display, which you can mount wherever you can see it, and the receiver, which does need line-of-sight to the transmitter. They are connected by a phone-type cord.
I zip tie the display to the center air vents, and place the receiver up against the windshield on the center of the dash, zip tied to the air vents. Others use different locations.
