Lowering the stock seats - a question

Some have done a foam-ectomy to get another inch but that seems to leave the cover less than snug. It's common in the Miata world and if done right, the seat is still comfortable.

I also have BYS rails and it lowers them 1"+ but makes sliding a little tough!
