Default Mods to Run S2K Challenge -- Stock Class

I am running Stock Class in the SV S2K Challenge in a 2003 AP1 that is bone stock right now, except safety equipment (4-point custom rollbar, Cobra Evo seat, Schroth 6-point harness and R3 head/neck protection device), Raybestos R43 front racing brake pads, Motul RBF 600 brake fluid, and OEM wheels from an AP2 with shaved Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, front 235/40/17, and rear 255/40/17.

So far that amounts to exactly ZERO points. I am allowed 0.50 modification points in Stock Class. I think the best way to use the points is Cat-back Exhuast (0.25 point), and cold air Intake (0.25 point).

Do you agree, and if so, what brand/model exhaust and intake should I get? I prefer California CARB legal products. Thanks.

this is probably more appropriate in the racing forum.

i'd consider a level 1 wing. otherwise, go non-carb with a test pipe and very light single exhaust.

What other mods are .25? I'd get the exhaust for sure. The intake on the other hand isn't quite worth it for .25 pts imo.

test pipe and the $10 exhaust mod.

the $10 exhaust mod and test pipe have been dynoed at around 10hp gain, plus you lose 60lbs off the car.

Racing forum has a thread about custom exhausts

Problem with test pipe (in place of Cat) it is that it is just about as illegal as you can get in California. The fine for removing a cat is huge. This car is street legal, registered and insured, and I plan to keep it that way for now.

Wings are not allowed in Stock Class at all.

How about a header? That's 0.25 point. Together with cat-back exhuast that's 0.50 point.

Here are all the possible mods available in Stock Class. I can only have a total of 0.50 points.

POWER
0.25 = OEM 2.2L motor
0.25 = any aftermarket intake system or modification to OEM intake
0.25 = any aftermarket header
0.25 = test pipe
0.25 = cat-back exhaust

WEIGHT
0.25 = soft top removal + hardtop
0.25 = passenger seat removal
0.25 = light weight doors
0.25 = AC/audio removal
0.25 = Non OEM or modified rear bumper

TIRE/WHEEL
0.50 = any deviation from original OEM staggered wheel setup up to 9" wide front and/or rear.

AERO
0.25* = air dam bumper, air dam or any add-on lip excluding non-CR OEM lip.
0.25 = rear diffuser
0.25 = rear spoiler (non-OEM) (No wings allowed, just “spoiler”

Suspension starts at 1.0 point, so not allowed in Stock Class.

if tune is out i would stay away from the header.

if money isn't a question here it seems to me soft top removal + hardtop and a single exhaust would be the best combination to spend .5 points.

assuming your response was a "No" to my first question, "are you allowed to tune?" , i would go with

1. 0.25 = cat-back exhaust
2. 0.25 = soft top removal + hardtop

this is gonna save you a total of about 100 lbs.
make sure you get a FULL Ti single exhaust for your application.
if your car is a street car too, i recommend Js 60 fx rs as it is very quiet during cruise and very aggressive on WOT.
if you dont care about noise level, go with the 70 RS.

Remember, weight is key !

good luck with your build.
