Default Mosport time trials

Pretty disappointing showing at Mosport, best official timed lap 1:44.47
http://www.comscc.com/results/mosp0607.htm

Not only got clobbered by the 350Z I bested at Watkins Glen, but also by a whole slew of Miatas! The shame...

Wasn't until yesterday morning after driving into work that I noticed the middle half of the [edit] left rear was nuttin' but cord

Tires are Kumho VictoRacers, 225/50-16 F, 245/45-16 R. I got 'em unshaved, drove to and from Watkins Glen on them, and this week to and from Mosport. Didn't help that I shared the car at this event. Two days in the mid 80s F, without much respite for the car.

Went a bit faster on day one, low 1:42's, maybe high 1:41's (caught, passed, walked away from a buddy with a lap timer who was turning 1:42's during those laps).

I dunno if I'm going to get new tires (maybe RA-1's) for the S2k or track the 240Z for the rest of the year. The Z is really the better track car, and it can go 5 events on a set of Hoosiers!

I was totally happy with the car's performance at the Glen (2:20.5), but if I hafta buy new shoes for it every event or two, that ain't happenin'.

Stock everything, running in Showroom Stock A.
It's my daily-driver, so I'm not going to trackify it anytime soon.

Glad to hear you made it back safe and sound Any mention of the S2000 that crashed at Calabogie Mike is no joke in his 350Z. BTW, why is the 350 in SSGT and the S2000 only in SSA? It did not make sense when I saw it

Yeah we discussed the Calabogie incident. I reported that the damage wasn't as bad as it looked.

Mike does get a lot out of a stock 350Z, that's for sure! Did you run with him at all? At the Glen he flat left me in traffic, but revenge in the time trials was sweet!
The suspension damage was a cheap and easy fix. The real money is in the body damage. DD + track accident = $$. Lesson learned, the hard way....don't lift

I was running 2:33's and Mike was doing 2.31's at Calabogie, so I am glad we were not in the same class I never made it to the time trial I would've won ST1 with my times

Dan, Victoracers are lousy track tires for the S (at least after the few laps). If you were an oldtimer you would have seen threads many years old that came to that conclusion. Shaved RA1's became the standard for years, though from what I've seen in the last year or two the Nitto NT01's are probably the preferred tire today, especially since you don't have to shave them (so also good for driving to/from the track).

But at least you now have a very good excuse .

heh heh, thanks!

Yeah, it wasn't a very well-researched decision to go with the Kumho's. Talking to folks with the time trials club, RA-1's are a much better choice, particularly over heat cycles, and I'll look into the Nitto's as well.

Maybe I should just get someone to transport tires for me and get Hoosiers...

Hoosiers cant be driven to the track, yes they are faster. NT01 are the same compound as RA1's with a stiffer/better carcass.
