Hey Jeff, so you finally sprung for motons, congrats man, i am curious to hear your feedback when you run them. As far as shock mounts. I am not familiar with the SOS setup, but from what i remember from last years rules, spherical top hats are allowed in stock but they need to be modified stock tophats. I don't have them handy but the rules go into detail about drilling mounts to allow for spherical bearing housings or cups to be welded to aid in installing the bearings. I ran them part way through the year, and i made my own modified OEM tophats copying Nick Jackson's design. Gendron also sells them but they are pricey. I think he contributed or was involved in the wording that clarified the rule for spherical bearings IIRC. Best of luck with them, Tony

What you do is flip over the lower spring perch that is on the Moton so that there is a flat resting area for the stock lower perch to rest on. Take a rubber mallet or hammer if you like, to the stock perch on the stock shock. Smack that bastard on opposite side until if pops off. Slide it down over the Moton body which is only a few mm more narrow than the stock shock body and sit it on the upside down (flat side) perch. Measure the stock shock from center of the clevis bolt hole (mounting fork) to the bottom of the stock spring perch. Match this on the Moton.

Profit.
Awesome, Thanks Matt! and everybody else. This is exactly what I was looking for. Now I just to find a cheap OEM suspension and I'll be ready to go. I don't want to take my stock assembly apart.
Why not? You can easily reassemble it. And you're welcome.

I want to be able to swap out quickly if necessary and I like the idea of having two complete suspensions rather than one and pieces. Maybe a little on the lazy side too.

Hey Tony, yeah, after going back and forth with what I wanted to do I decided to just jump right in. I'll definitely keep you posted. I'll have to check into the modified stock tophats thing but I don't think I want to go to the extent of modding OEM. If I could make what I have work I would but I don't think its possible with the spring perch requirement and upper spring mount (separate from tophat). Plus I read that not using the upper spring mount and just the tophat, strains the spherical bearing.

I don't know the diameter of the shock, but, you can pick-up two piece aluminum shaft collar like the one in the AST picture above for under $30.

FYI, for customers looking at the Moton shock, we have specially made 12mm OD shafts and 12mm shaft collars available for the OEM top mount which allows users to use the shock with the factory rubber mount with out modification. For questions, please contact us.

I will look into this.

I picked up a complete OEM suspension today from a loca S2ki-r for $80, looks like I'll be building these soon.

So, I've been thinking. With the added "spring" of the Moton gas pressure, will I be able to run a 275 square setup with my 04 springs? or is this exclusive to CRs? Anybody tried it?

You're going to rub. Badly. Even with Motons at 120psi and CR springs, I regularly replace fender liners. You could probably get away with it for one event or two...

haha, while I could probably swing new liners every season, every couple events would be a bit much. Wishful thinking I guess. Thanks!
