Default Nasa tt5

I've been wanting to build a time trials car, but with the recent changes to NASA TT classing, it sounds like people feel the S2000 is not competitive in TT5. I'm new to all of this and still trying to wrap my head around how classing works, but based on the provisional 2019 rules, the A-arm modifier that upset S2K drivers was made even worse. It's being changed from a -0.7 to a -0.8.

Has the S2000 been competitive in TT5 this year? Would it be a waste of time and money to try to build a competitive TT5 S2k?

You can look at the NASA race results: https://racehero.io/orgs/nasane

You will likely find your TT5 racing in TT4. Or in a 2-car class.

Question: why do you want to race TT5 in a newly modified S2000 rather than race, time trial, and HPDE in a Spec Miata or Spec Racer Ford?

If they let me run my S2000 in Spec Miata, then I'd love to do that In all seriousness, I love the s2k and want to drive it competitively while also driving it around town. If TT5 can be a place where the s2k is decently competitive, then I'd like to give it a shot.

The reason for the s2k taking the .8 hit over the .7 from this year is because they are so damn fast. I think the s2k is very competitive in Tt5. That's the class I run in nasa mid Atlantic. Me and sick day kinda concreted .8 this weekend with our times! Build the s2000 you will not be disappointed

Which was kinda my point. The Op wants to drive to the track...the TT5 Hoosiers or RC1s aren't really ideal for that.

If you are going to trailer and garage the car anyway, the Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford give the option of competitive racing (20 cars in the class instead of 2). They can still be used in HPDE and TT events. The TT fields are generally so small the advantage of winning seems to be getting free tires.

The Spec Racer Ford will be less expensive to buy that the cost of prepping the S2k. But that car has a big advantage: crash damage is much easier and less expensive to repair. With over 900 built, there is a support network in place; no engineering on the fly. On most tracks, the 105hp or 135hp 1600lb cars will be as quick or quicker than an NA S2000, almost certainly faster than a TT5 S2000. And it looks like a real race car. No nighttime enduro racing though.

S2000 is an extremely competitive car in TT5. The a-arm penalty increased because the S2000 has been dominating. I have had some success in my TT5 S2000 and the .7 penalty hasn't effected things much for me compared to when the car was a TTC car. The increase to .8 won't make a big difference either. With the new TT6 rules pushing tons of cars to TT5 next year, the class should really grow. It started out pretty slow at the beginning of the year but now car counts are already starting to grow.
