Default New Tire Time!!

9k Street miles, 6 track days, ~50 autox runs and I have worn my RS3s out. I am really leaning heavy towards RS4s given the good luck I had with the RS3s, but figured I would solicit other opinions. I suspect my next year may be more like 3k Street miles, 12 track days, zero autox events. Basically, I will be driving to and from track and occasionally Street on nice days.

I want ant to stay close to the RS4 price range, but wouldn't be opposed to a R888 or something similar if it would give me more enjoyment at the track. The RS3s are great, but do grease up after 15min, other than that I am sure they are slower than R888s? Hankook does make the TD anyone use these? I don't race a class, just like hitting it hard on the track.

I've had RS2s, now RS3s and will likely get the RS4s.

It's all my suspension can handle really, Koni yellows and CR springs. The Hankook RS wear like iron, grip like hell (for a street tire) and do very well in the wet, especially at full depth. Plus, they're cheap compared to other tires in this category.

The hankooks are hard to beat. Ive been running the Maxxis VR1 and dont think they are better. They like to chunk when they get hot and need a low camber setup. When i was running rs3 i needed lots of tire pressure and camber. As far as R888R, dont do it unless are comfortable drifting all the corners on you favorite track. Making the switch to r comps too soon in your career can stall your driver mod progress. I lost whole years of progress switching to r comps before i learned car control.

They just wear quickly ...... and fall off pretty quick too. At least that's what I've observed and what I've been told.

But yes, they are a great tire. $ for $, the Hankooks are hard to beat.

Wow, that is really surprising to hear! Like I mentioned in my OP, I have ran the crap out of mine and still have tire left.

The 255/40-17 RT615K is on closeout at Tirerack. I picked up a set for $500 shipped earlier this week. I also have another two Nexen SUR4 to go on until I move to the RT615k.

Track time in the form of saved money on tires > overall grip, to me, at least.

The TD is super fast but only for 2 or 3 days. Hence the nickname... TD == Two Day. I got about 10 heat cycles on mine then they fell off a cliff.

Why no NT01?

Just popped RS4s on my friends car.

The sidewall was noticeably stiffer. The steering felt more accurate on the street when I drove and he did a pb in 107 heat at thunder hill this past weekend.

So far so good!
