None yet. I would like to autocross but plan to dump some weight to start with. Perhaps other modifications later. May try club days at a track in Brainerd, but that is 170 miles away.

Just wondering if these wheels in 17X7 at all four corners would mess up handling.

Most people would say.....stay stock....learn the car and then if you need to change things do it then...

I personally would not do 17x7.

What you're talking about will take you right out of stock, where your car won't be competitive. You also will hurt both your balance and your overall grip. These cars are twitchy enough that I wouldn't want to be messing like that.

Somehow, the present national champion in A stock manages to launch on stock-sized wheels, without nuking his drive train. I have been autocrossing my car in stock form (with a big front bar) for three years, and you don't need or want a 6k clutch drop. You can get monster rear tires spinning just right with a 4k feather.

Finally, whatever weight you're saving with your cheap wheels isn't worth the problems you'll be creating. Skip lunch on the day of the autocross; you'll be much better off.

umm yea i say keep the oem stagered fitment and just get a stiffer sway bar, and the narrowest tire you can put on a 17x7 is a 205/40/17 but thats not goin to help you with anything as far as handling, i mean correct me if im wrong guys. if anything i would think it would make it worse.

Why is the word "staggered" so hard to spell?

OP, the "extra resistance" of a 17x8 over a 17x7 wheel is approximately zero.

Weight is evil, and weight is to be minimized and reduced at every opportunity, but not at the expense of grip potential!

Ok, so hopefully without beating a dead horse, is there a tire sizing with 17X7 front, 17X8 rear that would not mess up grip. Weight savings is also to make the car a little more fun to drive around on a daily basis.

I don't care what class I would be in for autocross. I expect to get my but handed to me. The purpose of that would be to have fun ripping around the course, learn the limits of the car in a safe environment, and hopefully become a better driver. If I come in last, I don't care.

The small amount you will save in weight will not be noticeable by you, unless you're a national class autocrosser, and even then it's a matter of tenths. You probably would have more fun staying stock, and possibly being competitive in class, than going into a mod class, not really being any faster, and spending a bunch of money.

Do you really, really want to spend money to go faster? Go to an Evolution Driving School. That's a much more cost-effective way to get faster.
