Default Non-Staggered Wheels with Staggered Offset

Theoretically, which would be better for performance (both setups on 255/40/17 square)
  1. 17x9.5 +45 square
  2. 17x9.5 +45 F, 17x9.5 +39 R

I'm thinking setup (2) would marginally yield a faster lap time due to wider track width in the rear. Is this desirable and/or worth losing the ability to rotate tires?

1) I doubt a few mms (1/4") would make any sort of difference.

2) Where are you finding 17x9.5 +45 wheels?? I want a set.

1) Negligible, yes, but for the sake of argument I'm sure there is a difference nonetheless

We are splitting hairs here but don't forget about the increased aerodynamic drag from the wheel/tire sticking out further as well. Again, the difference is pretty negligible but It could negate any advantage that the wider track width may have. Personally, I think it would be silly to do the staggered offsets and lose the ability to rotate tires over a 12mm track width difference that I don't think would yield any real gain in performance. Just my .02.

I'd use spacers to accomplish the staggered offset if you feel there may be an advantage.
