Well at the power levels one could reasonably attain in both a C4 and S2000, the C4 is going to "grow" in width a bit more with 335/35-17's on 17x12.25" wheels than an S2000 would on 285/30-18's on 18x10's (which fit great BTW). Anything wider than that on the S2000 means a taller tire, and even with the '04's gearing shortness and SP power mods I don't think taller will ever be the way to go at the 4-banger's power level. I could be wrong though, or maybe we'll see a 3.0l V6 in the car some day...
The earlier Vettes were closer in weight than the later ones, so final weight will be closer than 500 using UD/BD. ASP C5s are already in the low 29xx's, and the C4s are lighter than that.
I think ultimately it won't be weight or size that makes the difference, but rather that a 400hp/2900lb. vehicle with V8 torque is going to consistently get from Point A to Point B a lot faster than a 285hp/2500lb. vehicle with a peaky powerband.
But again, I don't want to stop anyone from trying!!

25xx, Hell BS cars were seeing mid 26xx. Stereo, seats, lighter header, no cat, lighter intake, ITRB's. Wheels, I think it's possible to see High 24xx if you went absolutely as light as possible on every possible part. At that weight a 285/30 under the rear, different rear end, It will be expensive as hell to prep it but it will be competetive. I really wish I had the money to give it a try.

The lightest BS S2000 at Nationals was 2682.
We'll start at 2680:
A/C -50 lbs
Stereo -10
Battery -30
Seats -30 (stock seats aren't that heavy)
CAI/Intake -20
Header/cat -15
Gas tank -20 tops (2682 assumes 3/8 tank, ~5 gallons)
oh, but
wheels/tires +30 (or more, the tires themselves are probably a +15)
So we're at -145lbs, or 2535. Not sure what more one could do, and I think this number is already a bit optimistic.
I think the car is more viable in SM2. Ian, How do you think the S2000 would be with a supercharger like Palmblad's Miata?

Consensus was that the Nationals scales read about twenty pounds heavy. Also, our car had a Spoon single exhaust on it, which is light, but not ultra-light -- you could probably save five pounds or so with something like an Amuse titanium exhaust, or a bit more with just a straight pipe. That gets you close to 2500 flat.

But if you do a fuel cell, I think you have to add a rollbar and fire extinguisher? At least that's where I think the fuel cell rule in SP threads to. Probably a wash weight wise.

Andy's right on this one. I looked it up last night. The fuel cell is legal if the car is also completely Solo I legal for safety items. I might even argue that this is worse than a wash on weight.
Consider though... at Nationals, BS and BSP trophy times overlapped. You CAN trophy at Nationals in a stock legal S2000. In SP trim, the car should definitely be able to be competitive. Winning is another matter.

Look back over the past few years' results... BSP has run with, or actually beaten ASP at most events. The fact of the matter is that there is little difference between an ASP Vette and a BSP Vette. (Because the Z06 is little more than an evolutionary development of the elder Vette's design, and is less likely to be improved by the SP mods than the C4.)
The next step for the S2000 to be comptetive in SP trim is to get all the C4 Vette's moved up to ASP where they belong, with the times they have proven they can run. Then the S2000 and BMW can have a nice fight in BSP.
