By the way Moton does still exist...AST is treating it as their higher end shock line. They bought the Moton components/patents/IP/etc too, and then made some changes.

You also have to define what you mean by competitive.

Because there are people that have competitive personalities, but are not competitive in their skill level or abilities.

There are many regional guys like that. They can sometimes be the biggest spenders, always looking for some way to be "faster..." everything except learning to drive better, lol.

Just curious, what is the lifespan/miles before overhaul of da penskes, motons etc? I was under the impression that race dampers require more frequent overhaul.

Can someone be "competitive" in other forms than just autox? Eg shooting for a good lap time at their local track/club events?

DFVs are a grand less than all those shocks with springs and hats?

I see the point answering my original question.

I've had Motons and they are overrated. IMO, the DFVs provide more car control than Motons, which easily got unsettled over bumps in high speed turns.

As for a complete kit, with matching valving & springs, simply adjustability of rebound/compression, less temperature sensitivity, 3 speed oil paths vs 2 and tuned for the S2000 by Ohlins, the DFVs are a great value.

Great comments, love reading them all!

Again, depends on what you consider "competitive." And what you consider "good."

Generally in this subforum, it is "RACING AND COMPETITION." Which refers to sanctioned competition. So Time Trial and Club Racing would be the track analogies.

We generally support things that aim for that goal, even if the execution and skill level is not quite up to task. It's about the journey.

Unless you are a competition racer with excellent car setup abilities, this statement is probably more user error than the actual limitation of the Moton.

Plus, you can get the shocks custom valved (Penskes, too) for the type of surface and track you run on. In my experience, if you set up shocks wrong they are definitely worse than stock. If you set them up right, they are magic.

This may be the first negative comment I have ever heard about a Moton shock...

This is why autocross is completely irrelevant to me when discussing suspension. The amount of seat time is a bad joke and it is a horribly inadequate way to test/rate any suspension setup, unless all you care about is autocross.

Anyone have any relevant track or winding road impressions for the Ohlins DFV?
