I also enjoyed the site. If you live in a warm climate, there's not much point to installing the thermostat...it will only help your car warm up more quickly but it's inevitable that the oil temperature will exceed 180 degrees, the most common type of oil thermostat.
But if you live in a place with a true winter/summer, your oil may never get up to temp without an oil thermostat in the winter...no good.

Comincal reading that. In the Showroom stock car I mounted an oil temp guage just for kicks (cause I can't modifiy the car to change anything). Guage ended at 300f, the needle wrapped around to the stop point on the oppsite side.... 340f ish. Does it in about 2 laps and it lasted the whole race. I'm amazed. After taking the checker it was 3/4's of a lap coasting at low RPM before the needle came back to 300f. Bit scary looking down and seeing the oil temp guage pegged the whole race, but nothing you can do about it.
Ford Focus SVT with 97,000 miles on it. Engine untouched.

It looks like it's pretty accurate, the factory oil temp guage was pegged as well (but it doesn't have numbers). We pulled the motor apart, signifgant scarring on the bearings, pistons look burnt around the rings, all signs inside the motor show it got hot, lobes on the camshaft the case hardening is gone several of the lobes are worn down signifgantly. Drove it to lunch before tearing into the motor, under normal driving oil temp was staying in the 210-220 range. I fully expected to find something seizing up in the engine but I didn't. Gotta figure out how to cool these oil temps before racing it... especially in the summer.

If your worried about oil pressure with the cooler you can add a washer behind the bolt for the oil pump and increase the pressure.
