Default Question about D2 Coilovers

Hey guys. I'm relatively new to suspension setups with the S2000 and am looking at getting my feet wet this season with road coursing. I bought the car in december and it came with D2 coilovers already installed. I had a set on my civic back in high school (mainly because they were cheap and I wanted to slam the car), and after reading a bit here I have picked up a lot of mixed reviews.

My question is this: Should I be looking at replacing them before I start getting into driving at the track? I realize they are a budget coilover, I just don't have any real world track experience outside of drift events in my old 240sx and would rather start on something that isn't going to hinder the experience.

Thanks for any input you can give me!

if you still got the stock suspension put those back on. but if you dont then just run these and wait till they blow out. and if you havent already make sure to get an alignment first =)

If you can, maybe try and get them near stock-ish ride height. Do you have stock springs on the coilovers? You'd be surprised at how even small tweaks (especially if you're newer to chassis changes) can really mess up the handling of a car. You don't want that to happen at 100 mph....

Agreed. Or try to sell/trade for stock suspension. You may be able to make enough on the sale/trade to pay for your first track day.

very true! didnt even think about the difference being applied for the cost of track day entry. and you will be surprised how good the stock suspension is. if you dont have anyone local i might be taking my set off soon. or if you can sell those i have a set of CR shocks with swift springs and top hats ready to go!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I don't have stock suspension, I didn't get it with the car. I'll have my alignment double checked for sure, and then most likely ride these until they blow, but if they give me any issues what so ever I'll pull em off for stock suspension asap.

I appreciate the responses!

Edit.

Stock springs? I've got whatever came on the coilovers. I'm assuming that's what you mean. Yeah don't get me wrong, I did a fair amount of tweaking with my 240sx, but the s2000 seems much more sensitive to stuff like this.

Yeah I'm big on roll bars/safety equipment in general. I crashed riding with a friend of mine last year at about 70mph into a K-rail at a local event. We would have been in a lot of trouble had it not been for the roll cage.

Some coilovers come with aftermarket springs.

do a straight up trade of that junk for stock suspension, your car will handle better.
