I have the PLX Kiwi bluetooth synced up with Torque on a Motorola Droid X. It's awesome, I definitely recommend it. If you want a dedicated device, search on eBay for an Android phone with a bad ESN. You can find a lot of fully functional phones that just can't be activated (on most carriers), so the prices are really low.

The manufacturer of Torque states that the cheap chinese bluetooth adapators on eBay are hit and miss. Since I didn't want to hassle trying one that didn't work and returning it and stuff, I waited for a KIWI on eBay and got it for $60.

Have you looked at these? Not sure if it's what you're after but I think it's cool.

PLX is nice but to get the whole set it becomes way too expensive.
