Default Remove Rubber from Stock Hat KW V3?

The KW V3 shock uses the stock shock hat with the stock rubber spring cushion. The V3 comes with a spring "cap" that goes between the main shock spring and the hat. It looks like I could remove the stock hat's rubber spring cushion and allow metal-to-metal contact between the aluminum "cap" and stock hat with no problems other than noise & vibration. This is for my race car so I'm not worried about noise. Am I missing something or is this doable? Can the rubber spring cushion be removed without destroying it?

I'm also considering adding some silicone bathroom sealant where the rubber cushion was to minimize noise & rattles. I'd add spring preload pressure to seat the hat when I add the silicone sealant so it would "squirt out" from beneath the spring cap and ensure metal-to-metal contact but the cured sealant would prevent the cap from moving around in the hat. Any issues with this plan?

Yea, I'll try to get a pic up in the next couple hours.

Why take out the rubber?

The rubber can act as a non-linear spring and make suspension tuning more difficult.

U could use some of these swift plastic/metal thrust bearing sheets maybe. http://www.hpashop.com/product.sc?pr...&categoryId=32

The ones meant for the 60mm springs don't fit over the lower spring perches though. Just a hair too small ID. I tried/have them.. .

Here's the pics of the KW V3 spring cap:

The spring cap inserted into the stock hat with rubber spring cushion in place. The rubber cushion keeps the spring cap centered in the hat.

The rubber cushion does hold the KW spring cap centered in the hat so removing the rubber cushion could allow the cap/spring to slide around.

Yes, caps are for centering. If you remove rubber you will have spring sliding sideways and probably wearing out in to metal. That can make metal shavings/dust which falls right down on shaft.
I would not just remove rubber. Either make caps that fit tight or make new ones out of plastic or buy them if available. I made my own between helper spring and main spring and my ohlins already had plastic top ones.
That rubber is pretty thin to mess with your rate . Some cars like my old MB had big rubber block and they came in different sizes to change ride height. Those I can see have slight effect.

If you do remove anything and put on some type grease/lubricant. I recc. You use dc 111 silicone grease. Stuff does wonders and is water resistant to last longer.
