I think Harddog makes a bunch of Miata bars. So, bars are their business.
Yes they do! Check out their

and crash photos

I need a roll bar to be able to run white group in HPDE.
Which one do you guys recommend for easy installation, good looking and value?
Not trying to make mine a race car ...simply want to pass inspection.

Thanks.
i did a ton of research of options... ending up getting the hard dog bar (aka elda). it seems to be the safest for many reasons. the cusco products should be avoided for safety reasons. also, the hard dog bar meets scca solo 1 rules. cusco does not. and you absolutely should avoid the cusco 6-point roll cage (or 4 point front cage)--apparently many safety concerns with those.

my hard dog bar definitely was high quality--clearances with the soft top was exceptional (within mm's... very nice). install was kinda difficult. but is much stronger than the cusco bars (no bends, mounting plates much larger, etc.) the only complaint i have is that the harness bar is too high (better than too low though).

I support the hard-dog bar as well (well I got mine from the Go Fast Lab period), and unfortunately can add my own crash photos.

I disagree with hard though, I thought the installation was relatively easy (I didn't try trimming the interior or putting it back to streetable though).

It is incredible how good shape the car appears to be in besides the soft top.

It's too bad that the gravel trap was so deep there, had that been a paved run off area (like it should be) that roll never would have happened, you would have been able to keep on going.

well I certainly vouch for the integrity of the rollbar. I'm fairly confident I'd have survived the same roll with the stock hoops and seatbelts, though I'd have had at least some injury (I didn't even have a sore neck).

s2kobsession, why do you say get a new one for free? I don't understand. Nor do I even want that, the bars integrity seems perfect, as were the a-pillars. Amazing a-pillars in this car.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but that looks like a very low-energy rollover. (Low-energy being relative, of course.)

Actually Mike you're absolutely right.

When I want to make the story dramatic, of course it was at the end of the fastest straight of one of the fastest race courses in America. In my pretty much stock S I'm usually braking at an (S speedo indicated) 135-140.

But in reality it was very low energy, lots of speed was scrubbed in the sliding and a lot of energy was converted to rotational energy, which really ended up minimizing the effects to the car and to me.

Also the impact was pretty much square across the bar and windshield frame, a very good scenario for the bar. However to compare to some of the more dramatic pictures on the Hard Dog site, it looks like some of those impacts weren't rollovers, didn't involve the bar at all, and in fact if they were helmet-less the bar could have posed more of a problem than not.

I just wanted to vouch for the bar, it took a reasonable hit (complete weight of the car and had no identifiable damage.

That and, if I had to roll a car in an HPDE, the pictures were pretty cool, no?

if you roll or crash your car with a hard dog in there, you just have to take some pictures and take the bar out to send back to them. (if your bar was damaged or bent at all)

They will send you a new one for free!

glad to hear you are ok and the rollover was "low energy" though
