Default S02 rears worn but good for track?

going to do a 2 day track even at Pocono speedway road course, my rear S02s would get through inspection but i'm not sure they would last 2 days. Right now i'm about 1/32" to 1/16" above the bars. question is should i baby these and take them or get new? Will new deep tread tires be better than these worn babies? i've often seen or heard about shaved tires, are new tires bad?????

S02s lose a lot of grip when they get worn down.

If you're slow and/or no rain, you'll be fine. If you're marginally quick, you'd better be a good drifter.

S02s suck, btw.

The OEM S02s ('00-'03) are some of the best street tires you can buy for dry-track duty. At full tread, they're great in the wet too; they only get dangerous in the wet when they're worn.

The other issue is how old are these tires? If they are pretty old, the rubber gets hard and are not that grippy. If you are doing a 2 day event, I don't see why you would want to take the chance of the tires not being that good. Sooner or later you will need new rubber, might as well use the new rubber for your track day.

People get their tires shaved so that the there is less tread flex or chances for the tires to chunk. How fast do you think you will be?

Agreed, the S02 is at it's worst in the last mm of tread. Many an accident has happened there.

I'd definitely get a new set of rears.
