If you put 2 guys with superchargers along with other guys with only race slicks/r rated tires/etc, I don't know much about Buttonwillow, but it looks like a fast track, then the advantage is to the guy with the sc. If they end up getting fastest lap time and they don't get a prize...then it wouldn't be fair for them just as it wouldn't be very fair to the non-sc guys. I've never ran race slicks or r rated tires so I don't know how big of an advantage that is to street tires. But, I would think the sc gives at least a few more mph advantage at the end of any straight.

For a more permanent classing system, I think Poweradders should be bumped up to Production class.

Here's my opinion, for what it is worth...

1. Allow any pad in any class with no point penalty. I sorta agree with Jason on this. In fact, it should be encouraged that people in the stock class should swap out the stock pads for "upgraded" pads for more of a safety issue. (Brake fade with a newbie driver could be an ugly scenario at the track, I don't want to see anyone wiping out at the end of a long straightaway).

2. On a track like Willow Springs(high speed), I would guess that a supercharger would be good for 3-4 seconds a lap vs. NA car. I would guess that race tires vs. street tires would be good for 2-3 seconds. (again, just guessing at the time differences, assuming the same good driver who knows the track in both cases. But then again, who knows, I could be full of shit... )

3. Aaron has a tough job in coming up with the classification of cars. He can't please everyone, and someone will feel slighted. I am glad I ain't doing it!

4. Luckily for everyone involved, since the car is relatively new, and driving skill levels are all over the map, it will take a year or so to get to a "stable classification" for time trial events over here in SoCal. So if people feel slighted at this first pass of the classification, we can at least get data this year for Aaron to re-level the classes out (if needed). Which means, get your butt out to Aaron's track event so we can clock your laptimes and figure this out!

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Jason's email finished the job others had started and Doug's put a cherry on top, so we'll have any pad in all classes. I'm not just doing this to please people (god forbid), I've actually been completely convinced by everyone's arguments (for reals). For those who show up with stock pads, they can learn the value of R4S, R4, or other more track-ready pads; so be it. It sure didn't take me long to learn the lesson and Buttonwillow is probably the number one pad-burning track in the country. (For those of you with stock pads reading this, if you intend to drive on a track more than once, get some track pads and bring 'em out since your stock ones may not get you through the day.)

Moving on... since the power-adder business was just for fun, therefore not completely serious, I think we should take this seriously and build a classification that makes sense from the start as everyone is suggesting. This would mean not allowing SC cars with MOD-R setup in Production either, as Jason suggested, but relegating them to their own class. Perhaps this is the best thing to do.

I'll have a new classification up soon (moved to the top of the post; although I don't know how to do that, my powerful brain will figure it out).

And by all means, take Doug's advice everyone and show up... and have fun.

It's super that Aaron's powerful brain managed to edit his post, I just thought I'd add a post so people knew something had changed

Aaron, hope the extra classifications don't seem too cumbersome to you. They work a lot better for me--assuming, of course, that something more than 60 points is allowed in the Mod class.

Next step for me is to sign up--how do I do that?

Fluxen is right that everyone will be automatically entered, however, if you don't want to participate, obviously you don't have to.

If you don't want to participate, let us know, but we still recommend TIMING since it provides an excellent way to monitor your own progress.
