S2000 classing and classors
At the Evolution school, G.H. Sharp (SEB) and Rob Faulkner (SCAC) were instructors. Both of course drove my car. Neither had driven an autocross prepared S2000 before. So now they have. (at least on old Kuhmos, though the car stuck and handled well). G.H. on phase 1 course and Rob on phase 3. I let G.H. take a run alone later in the day in addition to the school runs. Phase 3 had some timer trouble and we went late, so no fun runs.
I asked G.H. how he thought the car handled. He thought pretty neutral. Certainly would not lighten front bar. Power could bring tail out and no problem push. Remember my bar is even stiffer than the comptech, though not by much. He said s2000 felt "lighter" in response to inputs than Boxster.
Rob said it was looser than others he had driven, but it turned out he had only driven on stock tires, which do push, so meaningless data. Also as I noted in Evolution school post, he induced some of the rear step out with harsher inputs, or touching outside gravel when off line.
Both asked about shocks, which are stock, and commented that they weren't bad, and that the big front bar must be the most important thing, which I think we have all agreed on already.
I did not get a chance to ask Rob for comparison to Boxster S. I will email or call later.
I had dinner with G.H. and others Friday eve. (not Rob. He came in Sat.) We talked a bit about classing proposal. I will report some of that separately once I figure out what I am comfortable quoting from private conversation.
