SCCA Auto-X Classing
I am going out to a local SCCA Auto-X this weekend and invited a bunch of my friends. The problem is that we are in separate run groups and one has a heavily modded NSX.
How leniant are they on the classes? Would it be possible for me to run stock the first day then Street Prepared the next day? Are they ok with me running out of class as long as it's a higher class (I am bone stock)? I am not trying to be competitive, just get more experience.
As for the NSX does he have any options on what class to run in? It would be his first Auto-X so he doesn't care about scoring.
Thanks!

So, your problem is that you all want to run in the same class?
I would think that you could all run in SU (Street Unlimited), since it's a catch all class.
It's going to be up to your local clubs, but I would think as long as you are not in contention for a top spot, no one will care.

No, we don't want to run all in the same class, just all in the same time slots. This is because HS runs the morning groups and AS the afternoon. So if I could run AP, then I could run in the morning groups with the rest of my friends (All Mods runs in the morning as well). Otherwise I would have to get to the track with them at 8:30am then stay till after 5pm....
So as long as I can run in AP, it should all work out.

Where I run, the NSX would be classed as Novice. We generally split the novices up between the different run groups. When a novice wants to run in the same time slot as someone he knows, he just speaks up and says "Hey, can I run in that group?" and the event master generally says OK.
Maybe other clubs are more strict, but at my club and the few other places I've run we are all out there just to have fun.

As you may have gathered from the responses, every region will run things differently, and thus no one on this board except maybe those people who run in your region will be able to give a definitive answer. Try contacting the event chair and asking them.

Since you are from NorCal, if you are referring to the SFR event at Marina, then you can run out of group as long as you are not running for points. Just put the class on your card followed by "WRG" (Wrong Run Group) or "FUN". You will then see your times in the results along with the rest of your class, but it will be listed at the bottom as "WRG". Any other club in the Bay Area or Sacto should also allow you to run out of group for fun.
As for classing cars properly, best to read the rulebook and have it figured out before you go. Any information you get from people on site may not be correct, and it is each competitor's responsibility to class his/her car correctly.
If you list each car and all the mods for each, we can help you figure out what class(es) they would be legal in.

Thanks PBC! Yeah I am running with the Sac Chapter in Stockton (closer then Marina) plus I am the only SCCA member so they couldn't run in Marina anyway.
We are all in our respective Stock classes, the NSX is the only oddball, and to be honest, he probably won't show up for fear of being beaten by Miatas
or at least my other friend in his C2S.
Here is a list of his mods though. Sorry, don't know actual rim width.
Comptech Headers, Exhaust, Cold Air Intake, 4.55 Ring&Pinion, Powergrip II clutch, lightened flywheel, 275/35/18 S03's (rear), 215/40/17 S03's (front)

That sounds like an SM2 car to me, but it probably doesn't matter. Sac chapter guys are cool, you should have no problem. Just tell them what you want to do and they will help you out.
Don't leave your stuff lying out at Stockton though. Stuff gets stolen there during events- it's not a good location.
Have fun,
Peter
