Sequential Shifter

Yea, that's why the list of people that have mis-shift overreved the car is a mile long.
Yes the car has a nice feeling trans, but the pattern is way to close together.
I would agree though that a full sequential is the way to go, but that's 10K minimum and more like 15k.

If you do muisshift while racing I do understand in can happen in the heat of the race.
But that "IKEA"
thing is NOT the way to go.If you feel that the pattern is too close, just put a longer lever on.
If I remember correctly in 2 years of racing my left hand driven S2000 I misshifted maybe twice bu talways due to a lack of concentration.
But I agree, its way easier to shift in an BMW or such.
Well in the right-hand Spoon race car, I do misshift more when unconcentrated but thats more due to the left hand not used to shifting and make these movements.
This is the only car I have ever done that in. (I've tracked somewhere around 20 different cars) I know a few other racers that have done it as well. I will admit fault, but this car is much easier to do it in than most. Didn't help that my shifter spring was broken.
That being said, I agree the Ikeya thing would have to work very well to be better than what we have now, and think it probably will not. Killing syncros, then gears, is not really cool.
Now for dreaming sake:
I did find a custom bell housing/flywheel in my searches that would allow a Ford Sierra style gearbox to mount up. Add that to a Quaife sequential (ford pattern) and you would have a very slick system. You would also be 15K lighter in the loafers. Doh.

How about a simple non-sequential dogbox? Are there any available to fit the S2000? This type of gearbox (http://www.hewland-engineering.co.uk...ange/ld200.htm ) is in my F2000 and shifts much, much faster than the S2000, and no need for clutch except from a standing start.
Maybe one of the other Hewlands listed on the top of their page might be applicable to the S2000?
(BTW, here is an "in-car" video of an F2000 at Infineon so you can see/hear the shifts. Fast laps are in 1:32's... flat from t7-t11
)

So cars in the VLN series at nuerburgring usesd to run sequential gearboxes.
All of them go back to the Honda Gearbox when it vome sto 24h racing due to realiability issues even if teh Honda's isnt the most taff gearbox around.
I heard of one engine which had gone due to the vibrations of the sequential gearbox killing the "engine shaft" bearings (whats the correct name again?!)
There are sequential gearboxes adaptable for teh S from around 4500 Euros on but you need to custom mount them.
I would love to have one...would give you instand lap time improvement.
