After a little thought, the question about the decision point on when to do the downshift hi-jacks the tread. With that being said, please disregard that. I just posted a new thread asking that very question.

Sorry,

Didnt want to start a new thread for this. Its not perfectly on topic (not smartphone, but has smartphone functionality) but it is still something pertianing to data aquisition. I know there's lots of guys/gals out there with GoPros.

Does the phone have to be jailbroken? I take it that that was only to use the external GPS. Is there a new solution to this?.. I read through and noticed the all the post were prior to IOS5....I had my phone jail broken before this

I think it doesn't anymore depending... HLT has a list of supported devices and one is directly supported with 5Hz without jail breaking. i really love the overlay of the graph where it shows you where you're missing time. That may be worth the price of admission by itself. I wish trackmaster had something like that.

Quite a while back I had just started monkeying with MaxQ , but never really got into it well enough to make proper use. I was then interrupted for a couple seasons and now recently am getting into Trackmaster on my Android. I don't quite get why you are having trouble getting that same 'min speed shift point determination' with Trackmaster. I (think) I have that part figured out, and I'm really weak with Trackmaster still.

Just looking at speed alone on the GPS based course map allowed us to determine that down shifting to first would be beneficial. After the event we compared segment times and found that the down shift gained us 0.88 seconds on the east course between cones 312 and 418 which is huge. I am not discounting the value or fun of having the videos, but at some point real data is key.
Bingo!!! When I actually go through the trouble of doing the data and only have a short period of time between runs, I just looked at the speed for the very same reason. Do I need to the F'ing downshift to 1st or not? With the AP1, this is vital!! When I was in the stock class, if I saw the speed drop to ~37ish mph, I knew I had to do the shift. Just curious, what is your decision point in STR to do the downshift? BTW, you are my hero for doing that at Nationals and proving it was that big of an improvement. I have to have the downshift argument all the time... I eventually just tell them to buy an AP1 and they will understand. Now I can say, at Nats '11 doing the downshift at the right point was an 0.88 second improvement. End of discussion! LOL

If I have lots of time (which is very rare), then doing segment times to see which approach is faster is a great tool. Since I gave up on MaxQData and I haven't figured a way out of doing this with the Trackaroo Trackmaster (Android's HLT wannabee), I've given up on doing that.

Great stuff!!

Does Trackmaster have anything like HLT's accumulated lap time charts? That seems to be a pretty huge win. You can see exactly where you picked up or lost time on the course..

Trackmaster does give you your best rolling lap and your best theoretical lap during any session so long as you have split markers defined (of course you would).

It's a little weak on playback at the moment. The playback is better on the Android device than your PC (though it auto-syncs to their website & overlays w/Google maps/earth which is cool). I just got an Android tablet which might bridge that playback gap as doing so on a phone size screen was limiting.

As I just got started with it, I didn't really work on configuring the run-time display to do things like display an over/under previous or best lap time so that one could see themselves gaining or losing time in realtime, or aiming for specific lap times and adjusting during the lap.

If possible it would be nice to get some screen shots off the android so we can see some of the features of Trackmaster in action.

I know I chimed in, but I'm really a noob at Trackmaster. Just getting to know it (as well as how to properly make use of data acquisition in general). I'm sure there's others out there with more experience.
