Sorry, this isn't any help, but the post somehow reminded me of this:

Is that a joke^^ LOL wtf. I would be pissed if i was the driver. Worst instructor ever.

anyway, The first track day I did in my 08 civic SI was at pocono on the north course and the instructor told me the same thing.. To up shift more smoothly. At high RPM, I was always use to just slamming gears and when I was on the track doing that, I was fine for the most part. Every now and then around a corner when i slammed the gear, the car would just push a little but nothing un controllable. I will be much more aware of this when I'm in the s2k on the track for the first time because i know in a RWD car, this can definitely cause some issues.

I am talking about up-shifting on straights. I have always revd to max and fast shifted and you get a grab into the next gear (and a little tire squeal when grabbing second).
Ahh, don't do that.

You're beating the crap out of your clutch. It's not a good idea to try to have two types of upshifts, one for corners and one for straights. Just try to do a quick but smooth shift--always. When you really start to push your car's limits the smooth shift will pay off with more confidence, control and lower lap times.
