Default So when cutting into frame for roll bar...

you want to be really high up so when you put the plate it will sit flush correct? I did my first cut and plate goes in, but it'does sit very flush, but I guess once you tighten down it would sorta smash together. Better to just cut that excess metal. I'm just such a wuss when it comes to grinding and sparks flying. Feel like I'm going to catch on fire...lol

Any help...words of wisdom to push me to the finish line because I am done for today.

Instead of being really high, have a shot or two of whisky, it definitely helps me when I'm working with power tools, when I'm high I tend to have to do things twice or I do them out of order.

har har ...Looking back at my post...I sure sound pretty stupid(very tired at the moment). It's just the stress of not using proper tools. My grinder is ok...but the disc seems too chunky. Maybe I'll pick up a skinnier one to help with cleaner cuts.

You can use the edge of the grinding disc or the sides of it to sort of whittle down whatever metal you need to get the plate to sit somewhat flush. Make sure to use eye protection as well. I've had a full spray of sparks hit my goggles straight on. I managed to do it with a 3.5" diameter cutting disc, if that gives you any idea of what it can be done with.

I made the cuts using a dremel with REINFORCED cutoff wheels. These worked great and I only used 2 - 3 wheels per side. After the initial cut was done. I went back with the dremel to get it closer to the top. The dremel allowed very precise work. I finished with a touch of the grinder. It still wasn't flush by any means though, the remaining metal just smashed together when the bolts were tightened.

I used a flat sander to file it flat. Helps to have tons of air tools
