Spec S2k series discussion thread
Drew,
This is very interesting and very exciting.
I personally think a very stock series would be boring for people because it really should be a test of driver AND their ability to bring out more speed through suspension setting/alignment.
If you cannot get KW to discount enough...look at other companies..i'm sure some of the newer companies would love to be involved.

KW is fairly agreeable to discounting, (although certainly not as responsive as those wonderful folks at Nitto...
) so I don't think that should be too bad of a problem. (We're probably looking at a group buy price south of $1800.)
I like the idea of everyone running one AP1 wheels very much. With a set of AP1 wheels running in the $300-400 range, this would be very affordable to all. Now that Nitto is gearing up to make the needed 16" Nt01 tire sizes, we'll have an excellent tire, at a very good price, that won't need shaving.
I defintely think that suspension, bump-steer, and r-comps HAVE to be included to make this work. With the stock setup, the car is just too twitchy at the limits to allow for the drivers to really go all-out. I'd really like to include a wing as well, as the car is night and day different with the added downforce of a wing. I'll keep looking for low-cost options.
Who wants to get more involved getting this thing going outside of California???
Post up or PM me and we'll get going on the next steps...

^ Drew, do you know when Nitto will be releasing the NT01 for 16"'?
The folks at Nitto are making this new size JUST FOR US!!! Nitto is comitted to becoming THE tire of grass-roots racing, and they're developing this tire just for the S2k and this upcoming series. Having an Nt01 available for the OEM rims means that we now have a high quality r-comp alternative that's not only very competitively priced, but won't need shaving. BIG tahnks to Nitto for this.
I sincerely hope that Spec S2k takes off and we make it worth all the effort they're expending on our behalf.

Nobody cares, but I'll throw my $.02 in the bucket anyway:
*HPDE/Time Attack-style racing, can do a W2W class later if participation is there
*All cars run AP1 wheels, spec tire in 225front, 245 rear
*All cars run stock shocks or off-the-shelf Koni yellows at stock ride height, stock springs
*All cars run a swaybar of the series' choosing, Comptech being a good choice for its wide range of adjustability
*All cars allowed cat-back exhaust
*Competition adjustment may end up being necessary for AP2 cars, will have to base that decision on early race results. Ballast suggested equalizer (perhaps AP2s must run with spare in place?)
*Rollbar/cage is legal but not required for TT class
*Consumables are free but no other mods allowed, a la stock-class autocross.
*Cars allowed to disconnect rear bar if event organizers declare a "rain day"
The above gives people the tools to build a pretty quick and well-handling car, with enough adjustments to tailor the handling to taste. Any other allowances are going to only make it less of a drivers' series, further separating the haves from the have-nots, both in terms of finances and setup skills.

Spec S2K sounds great to me, but never having raced or tracked anything, other than police driving training in Caprices and Crown Vics, or even seen a race in person, I have no idea what mods are a good idea.
All I can do is say this East Coast S2K owner is very interested. I can say that if it's bone stock, I'm probably in. If the mods in the OP (suspension, tires, maybe wing) are required, it may take me some time to find the ching, but eventually I will do so.
Extensive expensive mods and/or W2W are out of the question for me right now. I am looking for fun and to learn my car better. FWIW.

The tire is in development right now. The final sizes and release date is yet to be determined. Once it gets a bit closer, I'll start a thread specific to the tires.
