if you had 20 drivers walk in to SCCA or NASA and say "we want to stop running our S2000s in HC or ECHC and we want to run it in this new class we've agreed upon" wouldn't they just say "OK"?
well from word on the street..there are only 10 race s2000's to begin with..so doesn't sound like much pull....but i've been in scca board meetings and class meetings and lets just say it isn't that easy..example would be the formula continental fellas who had a very rough season with disputes about classifications and rules.
Make it stock, I'll be there.
Make me install 2-3K in mods I'm out.
Make me install 2-3K in mods and then get my ass handed to me by guys with track cars (per the proposed point system) and I'd be an idiot to even think about it.

dude a decent cage cost 2-3k, suit 300-1200, helemt 300, hans 1000, not to mention the little stuff. if you can't afford 2-3k, you can't race.
not a cut down, i'm in the same boat. after 8 yrs of racing I can't write the checks anymore.

I have an idea. Lets start this over. Create a new thread to come up with the goals. Then lets try to draft rules that meet those goals.
As I see it, there are really not that many W2W S2000 drivers anyway. So if this is to be a W2W series, then there needs to be a baseline set for how much seat time is required to just get in the car. I personally would love to do this, but today, I know I am just not ready to go W2W for points. HPDEs are fine.
I have reviewed the Spec Miata rules, NASA H1 rules, SCCA Rules. All of these rules spec what you can do to the car and what you can not. Only the Spec Miata rules require a set number of mods. Both of the others are more flexable in a number of areas, with limitations on what can be changed. All of them require some safety mods. Some word them as recomended.
Here is my thinking on building a car. I am in the process of building a race only S2000. Mainly so I don't tear up my daily driver. It will be street legal and meet both NASA and SCCA rules from the primary build. My goal is just a safer ride.
What I liked about NASA's H1 rules, it allows me to strip the car down. I only need to have a min weight. SCCA T1 requires a full interior, and recomends a full cage. What a waste to cut those OEM parts up. That is thousands down the drain. We all know that these parts have vaule to others, so why cut them up to install a cage? Sell them off.
And lets face it. Everyone is not going to be happy with whatever comes out of this. That is just the way it is. But if we can agree on the goals of the series the rules will follow.
