Did anyone else get excited about reading the article in GRM about the creation of the Spec E30 series?

At Summit Point this past weekend, the Spec E30 field was ~10 deep. The Mid-A region seems to have a decent following with these Bimmers as well.
yeah I think when you can easily find $10k used s2ks a spec s2k wheel-to-wheel series because very possible.
A lot faster than a spec E30 or spec miata (their laptimes from what I've seen aren't far apart) and not a whole lot more $.

Guys, the "status of this" is that it is DOA. That should be clear if you actually read it.
ps. The Pro-3 cars turn about the same lap times as my S2000. With a similar level of prep and similar drivers, an S2000 would be faster than them.
But the Pro-3 series is now over 20 cars per race. I've never heard of a 20 car S2000 field, much less in a regional series. There's more to the formula for successful racing than just having a faster car to use.

Spec racing classes are really fun, but it's not easy to start one. In our area, we have the Pro 3 class (spec E30, as Mike said), which often gets over 20 cars at each race, and Spec Miata, which has its own group in Oregon Region SCCA.
Between SM and Spec E30, you have cars which are not too far off the same sort of speeds you get in an S2000, and the Spec Miata drives similarly to an S2000. So the likelihood that you would get much traction for another spec class is not high, especially considering the paucity of cheap donor S2000s (compared to Miatas and old E30s).
