It would seem to offer some advantages over other solutions:
1. Bolt in
2. Stock roll hoops are retained or so A&J Racing believes
3. Diagonal cross member as is required in some solo I applications
4. Works with soft top
5. Moderately priced at $748
Disadvantages
1. Bar thickness unknown
2. The fact that it appears the diagonal and posterior supports are bolted rather than welded may make it illegal (Can any SCCA members help out here?)
3. May still be too low for taller drivers
4. Appears to be designed for RHD in that the diagonal attaches to the main hoop on the right
Those cages look sweet. I really like the cage actually, unfortunately it doesnt work with the soft top or i d be all over it. I d still be interested in the 4 point, but why sould you retain the stock roll hoops if you have this?
I agree that keeping the stock hoops seems rather superfluous. Greg's custom setup looks a little "busy" with them still in. Easy removal and return to the stock look to keep the wife happy would be the only sdvantage for me.
Yes, the Spoon car I saw did remove the stock hoops and the panel to which the hoops were attached. The area aft of the seats was completely flat as a result. It was interesting.
Mugen sells a couple similar to the full cage, is anyone stateside running theirs? I m seriously thinking about cutting the dash and getting something with that design.
Prolene, did the Spoon car still have the door panels?
Looks like they retained the door panels but stripped everything else. If only i could get it to work with the soft top. Thats exactly what i want.
Mugen offers 2 cages and only one of them has the side beams like the spoon one. But oddly enough, that one eliminates the door panels, but retains soft top usage, wierd.
to my understanding, it's designed for RHD, useless for American spec (LHD). It's made of mild steel 40mm which isn't the lightest thing. Maybe this might be of some interest? requires no cutting of anything...no permanent mods, can be taken apart in a matter of 10 minutes by someone who knows what they are doing.
it's not finished as there a few gussets that need to be put in and maybe a diagonal, but this was done last night at 3am and I had to wake up at 4:30am to make it to the track event, I couldn't wake up and slept in till 7am, what a long day!
