All brake rotors are going to develop cracks under the stress of tracking the car. If I were you, I would keep the fancy Spoon/Powerslot/whatever rotors for the street and just use plain old OEM-type rotors for the track. Rotors are like pads -- they are wear items.
Well OK, if I really were you I would have never bought one set of Spoon rotors in the first place, much less a second set.
(I just swapped out a pair of rotors at my last track day. I had a braking vibration that was just getting worse and worse. My rotors were cracked, but not enough to be structurally significant. I had driven on them like that for several track events. But when I swapped out the rotors the brakes just felt so much better....)

i was thinking about keeping the stock rotor for the street, and using cobalt g3000 for the track.
am i wrong here?
The OEM and the Cobalt G3000 are the same spec.. They are interchangeable and either is good for track or street. I've only used either of these on my car on the track, with full race pads and fluid.
Rotors don't need to be fancy. I use $30 rotors in the rear.

Little update following another trackday this time at Charade, an old (50-s) formula 1 track near Clermont Ferrand
Well, qt the end of the day the cracks were much worse, some over 1/2 inch long and the brakes noisy and vibrating so I went gingerly home (200miles) and the discs are cooked !
BTW looks like Spoon Tokyo will replace them (free) for the 2nd time
I agree with cthree`s post: pad and disc combo not good, panther + too agressive for the spoon rotors, I`ll put the pair of (US sourced) powerslots I have with projectmu pads
regards

I can't see the pic, but your description on 1/2" cracks and vibration sure has me a little

Congrats on Spoon replacing them, again...
[QUOTE=rlaifatt,Apr 5 2005, 11:06 AM]This may be off-topic, but I never understood why there is this desire to want more bite (people seem to say this all the time) when I find I want to initiate braking as smoothly as possible to not upset the car.
More sensitive means more difficult to be smooth in my view.
In situations where you are not threshold braking, like slowing for a chicane or in the middle of esses where balance is critical, I would think less bite would be better, and in cases where you are braking hard near/at threshold like at the end of a straight, it doesn't matter as much whether it has strong or weak bite. But that's just my preference.

Well Triple-H, I sure won't track again on even slightly cracked discs, and when I've worn out the powerslots, I'll use the replacement spoon discs and hope that pads less agressive than panther+ nwill avoid the heat shock/cracking
btw I also have brake ducts and am assuming they only have a positive role here ...
