Yep, buy a set from someone named Todd and you can win lots of Hoosiers for free.

Because, all tire manufactures vary widely on tire actual size vs published size. Many a times I've pulled a Michelin off a car, put a kumho on that's the same published size and it rubs. My 245/40 17 RE71R's on the FRS fit perfect, Put Rival S 245/40 17's on it and they rub like no other and you can't turn the wheel near as far. Those numbers written on the side are just a suggestion. This is why I for many years have been advocating a wheel size system for NASA not a Tire size. 8 inchs is 8 inchs every time... (oh the jokes I see coming from this).

I find zero point in running hooisers for DEs, but damn if a lot of folks dont do it. I'll work myself up to them, but next tire will be NT01 or RC1 (same points).

I started Racing in Autox in the 90's in a Old Volvo. I did the first event at age 16 with whatever tires I had bought the car with. My next event I showed up on R-comps, my 3rd event I was the 3rd fastest car at the event (in a 1981 85whp 3000lbs stock volvo). I'm 100% convinced you learn faster, and more starting on R-comps then twiddling your thumbs on street tires. I had actually never driven a street tire on a track or in competition until 3 years ago when the SCCA mandated them for stock class. It was like going from sleeping with a 10 to dating the fat chick. It sucked.

Willing to bet today's street tires (RS3 RE71 ....) are better than your 90's R-Comps.

Why wouldn't SCCA use street tires in a class called "Stock". It's not NASCAR / Stock Car racing.

I'd bet the RE71R is similar to the Kumho Victoracers I 1st had. But it's been 17 years since I've driven on those. A Stock car on a R comp is so much fun. It's were they all went wrong with Bspec. Showroom Stock Was a blast to race in. Slow cars that handled terribly but had grip for days. Felt like you were racing on your door handles. It was a blast.

The "Me" complex
What happens where there aren't enough people in class for contingency? Or if you are one of the other 4-6 people in class who lose? Guess it helps when your the only one running Hoosiers...until someone with a bigger bank account shows up.

Although after driving Pete's TTD SI on Hoosiers, I do get it. They work, and work very well. Just sucks to pony up for sets if there's not enough people for contingency.

This is why you build a car for multiple classes so you hunt down the one that has people. I intend to have my car so that I can toss a different tune and some weight in it and run TT3/4/5. We had a 350z locally that did that till he wrecked it, He had the thing figured out with dyno reclass's and weight to run D/C/B and he's collect tires in any of the 3.

So it appears Greg has a little bit of a hard on against the CR bumper. What a shame.

But is the CR bumper more effective than say a 1.5" splitter?
