Just for fun, here's my set up:

KN FPIK
Rick's Header (mugen copy)
70mm Berk HFC
T1R 70EM Ti

I was running a stock cat and stock exhaust cut at the axle. I've saved 4lbs going with the 70mm cat and exhaust and it's about 60% more quiet than what I was running. it's almost too quiet. It's very strange how it can open up, be lighter and be MUCH quieter. I'm sure I won't have any sound issues ever... even in 93dB sites.

I'm really hoping mine gets a little quieter when I put my header and HFC on this winter. Mine wasn't loud except for drone on the freeway with the same exhaust as you Matt (just the stainless version). Did your drone go down a bunch?

Well, when I had my 06, I ran the same Ti exhaust. I didn't think it droned then with the stock cat. It doesn't drone now either. I heard one guy say that it droned on his CR but then he got an 06 and with the soft top it was so much better than he admitted to me that it wasn't an issue. He supposed it was the hard top that was enhancing the drone.

Now, drone and noise are subjective qualities. I thought the chopped stock exhaust was pretty OK. I mean, I had to upgrade my stereo but the point is I could actually use one. Keep in mind that I also daily drove my STS CRX for years with a super trapp. Now that was a LOUD ASS car. I drove that one around either with ear plugs or those sound blocking ear buds.

I don't notice drone with this exhaust. I wonder if the steel one is any different some how.

Matt do you have any sound clips of your car with the Ti t1r 70 em? Also does it weight 9 or 14 pounds? I've seen both numbers posted.

Sorry. No sound clips and I didn't weigh it. I stood on my bathroom scale with my stock chopped exhaust attached to the cat and took note of my Weight. Then I held my assembled T1R and Berk cat and noted that I now weighed 4lbs less.

It's quiet. I'll have a video of running an auto-x with it after the 26th.

Also the Berk is significantly lighter than the stock cat, just from memory of the feel I'd say more than 4 lbs difference. So then my guess for your exhaust is that it's closer to 14 lbs.

OK cool, I subscribed to your new Vimeo channel. I'll check it a few days after the 26th. I really like vimeo for posting videos.

Just checked, according to Berk their cat is 4-5 lbs, stock is 12-13 lbs, so that's about 7 lbs savings with the cat alone. If as Rob mentioned in the first post the cutoff exhaust is 10-11 lbs, then that's ~23 lbs before, so 4 lbs lighter now means you're at 19, minus the 4-5 for the cat means 14lbs-ish for the T1R

Jon, here are two pictures of my OE exhaust when I chopped it up for use in BS. I haven't had any issues with the v-band getting attacked by the axles or flanges.

So I have the Berk HFC (non STR legal version) and I have been putting off the conversion to legal mod for some time. Is this something that a local muffler shop should be able to do? It's reall just removing the bung, cutting it down and re-welding it in, right?

I'm not familiar with the capabilities of local shops besides one about an hour away. Where did you all do this mod?
