T2 race report - BeaveRun
It went about as expected. Qualified 6th, finished 6th (1:06.4 fast lap). About 1.5 seconds off the front in both cases. Finished ahead of the Boxsters again but they're both newbies so that's not saying much. I was actually catching is P5 car until a 6 second back marker T1 Vette kept getting in the way, effective blocking me. I ended up looping it in T4 trying to not hit that back marker Vette (clipped the curb too hard, instead of running into her) but managed to not hit anything and get back out before the Boxster caught up.
The one interesting thing was that Bill Ziegler was there in Kris Skavnes' T2 S2000 (his Evo is still in the shop) but the car was having a problem with the ABS shutting off, so that prevented much head to head comparison. Bill's supposedly a pretty good shoe (wins T1 races) so I was hoping for more comparison but the brake issue prevented that. Kris' car is slammed into the weeds, can't even fit a jack under it. I told Bill to tell Kris not to bring it back like that. I spent a couple hours trying to help track down the ABS problem with no luck. We needed the Honda scan tool to read the ABS code and no one had one so we were chasing our tails a bit. We could get it to turn back on and work for ABS stops in the paddock but as soon as he went back on track it would code again.
From talking with Bill we figured out that Kris' car has the '04 gears and different rear diff (all of which is legal). Bill said he couldn't feel the diff slipping at all and it was doing it 4 times per lap for me. Also when the car was jacked up on just one side you couldn't turn the rear wheel (where mine will spin with just one rear off the ground). I assume this is a clutch type. I tried to email Kris to ask him about it but he hasn't responded. At Beav, the 04 gears seem to be a negative with the 2.0 motor. I was able to pull Bill going up the hill out of T10 as I was in 2nd and he was in 3rd. I was also in 2nd going up the hill after T5 and Bill had to use 3rd there too. I still think the 04 gears will be better for MidO.
IRP on July 3 is probably next.

Congratulations Jeremy!
You are more than 2 seconds a lap faster than me so I have even more work to do!
I tend to agree with you on the gears for Beaverun. I'm not positive because my driving still needs improvement. I have an '01 with '01 trans but put in 4.57 rear gears (which may not be legal for T2). The final ratio's may be similar as I was in 3rd coming up the hill on T5 and T10. I was not in vtec for 10 in 3rd so I was slow coming up the hill and that speed is lost all the way down the front straight. The stock gears may be best for that particular track.

I didn't know SCCA even went to Beaverun.... doh! Nice job at 6th.
What tires do you run? lap times sound pretty good at 1:06.X what was the Fastest t1 and t2 lap?
Were there any T2 Evo's at Beaver? I ran a 1:08.2 in my totall stock (street tires, factory alignment, etc...) evo in a Nasa Time Trial... i would think they would mop up just about everything with awd and torque on that little course.
My 4.77's suck in turn 10....it is either a short burst of 2nd gear or a just below vtec 3rd gear, then it gets rolling.

Wow, great time indeed. Congrats.
I actually went to beaverun recently with the 'Border wars' group and it was a ton of fun. I got my times down to 1:10 but my car is completely stock including the oem re050's. I think the car is capable of 1:09 in stock form.
yeah, you definitely need a good 3rd gear final drive. I always found myself too low in 3rd going around the S's although i'm sure i don't have your suspension or brake package.

Final Drive is not legal in T2.
Those laps are with Victoracers (225/255), 2930lbs with driver at the start of the race, Koni 2812 shocks (no springs allowed), Cobalt Spec VR pads, SS lines, & muffler-ectomy. I only things I haven't done are alternate LSD or update/backdate motor &/or tranny. I've got some quotes in for the LSD, so hopefully we can make that happen as that's the biggest problem right now.
No Evo's. Bill's the only one running one on the east coast, now that Larry gave it up after MidOhio, and his is still in the shop. Bill says he'll have it at the Watkins Glen National.
Rob Hines (Camaro) set a new T2 lap record at 1:05.135 during the race.
