Default Taking a fast turn

I've been having trouble controlling the oversteering on the S2k. I used to road race my RSX-S all the time and I must say that FWD are very easy to handle.

When I'm driving in the streets entering the onramp of the Freeway I try to take the turn hard, but instead my rears will swing out easily making me counter-steer back.

I have not had the chance to take the S2k to road race, but I will by January and February with Speedventures.

Most people on the board say that this car does some understeering but I have not encountered once.

How do you guys take fast corners on the S2k?

Don't drive like a FWD car for one.

Check your tire pressures and sizes (maybe you have a mis-matched set)

Slow in fast out.

Check your tire pressures, suspension, alignment, etc.

But be aware that when we say the stock S2000 understeers at the limit, that means it understeers UNLESS we induce oversteer. It is very easy to intentionally or accidentally induce oversteer.

I second the answer that you can't expect to drive it like a FWD car. You need to drive it like a RWD car.

The typical FWD move in a fast corner is to reduce the understeer by lifting a little or increase the understeer by adding throttle. In the S2000 both of those things will induce oversteer if the car is too close to the traction limit.

Thanks guys!

I do not drive the S2k as a FWD. I have driven my brothers e46 M3 and it seemed a lot easier to handle than the S2k.

I have heard that if you are taking the turn, you are not really supposed to let go the gas or else you will oversteer badly. Do I keep a steady foot?

With or without traction control engaged? Either way the M3 is balanced more towards understeer than the S2000, but with traction control on it will be really resistant to oversteer.

Mike,

I have tried both with and without.

Without it I can actually sense that the car is oversteering so I will ease off on the gas and correct it.

With it, you are right, there is hardly any oversteer.

Yes steady throttle, NO lifting.

You want to keep the car balanced with the throttle.

You mention taking the turn HARD.My personal experience has taught me u want to be smooth with your steering imput.Any jerking of the steering wheel in this car will tend to make it a little tail happy. As mentioned same goes with your trottle and braking.

Don't take your foot off the throttle...reduce it slightly or else yes you will get oversteer. It takes more precision than your FWD where you can do almost anything mid corner and not have to worry about the rear end

Speaking of lifting the throttle. I notice that I am going a bit too fast turning then I lift it and that is when I oversteer.

If you guys notice you are going too fast, what would you do? Keep on the throttle even though you "think/feel" the car will oversteer or ???
