Taming the oversteer
man, for taming of oversteer, i dunno why so many parts i see STIFFEN the rear of the car up? (im talking AP1 one especially here). if anything, someone should do a stiffer front swaybar, and only minimal stiffening rear sway IF one at all. in addition, stiffer springs out back (u can include higher rate dampers here too) only compound the problem for someone that isn't driving smooth enough/properly to keep the rear end planted (we assume tire pressure are optimal here as well, alignment + toe settings too). basically if find many aftermarket co's go a bit overboard with the amount over stock s2k designed parts for the rear suspension (sometimes front too). i mean sure, go a bit stiffer out back IF you do the front up, but i think only to a certain point.
ie - look at what honda did with the CR suspension, stiffened up everything compared to ap1 and ap2 models, but did so moderately in the rear. ie. +57% springs up front, but maybe only +12 ot +15% out back. dampers are only a bit more stiffer too, and the swaybar in front is stiffer, but out back they actually went softer. if anything, for the avg to very good driver, you'll feel quicker but is it really so at the limit? not to mention the snap oversteer / limit comes a lot quicker when u go soooo stiff out back (unless youre good enough to catch it everytime). also, if u look at every gen. s2k from 00 to 07, honda progressively "softened" up the car (for the more mature driver
or whatever)...and this included major changes to spring rates from FR to RR going softer out back and stiffer (or leaving the same) up front.i dunno, just something to think about. (fair to say, if someone is a track monster, then sure i can see the need for going crazy stiff and crazy alignment and all, but for street cars that see some track...i dunno, only so much u need to go. i myself fit into this category).
