Test and Tune at track
Willow Springs and Buttonwillow both have open testing on Fridays, although it's sometimes for motorcycles instead of cars. You generally need a race-prepped car, since there's no ambulance and sometimes no corner workers.
It's not all that cheap the first time, since you've got to pay a fee for the car, a fee for the driver, and then a fee for a once-a-year card. It's somewhere in the neighborhood of $75 for each of those.
Depending on what's going on the following weekend, it can either give you loads of track time or a lot of headaches. If there's a national SCCA event coming, you're likely to be running on a crowded track.
If you're free either day this weekend, TracQuest is at about half capacity for its event at Willow. It's on the expensive side ($300 and change per day), but it's a safe event with loads of track time. I'm going to be there both days, instructing.
