Default Timeattack turbo build

Up to Date:
Sheri is currently in Wisconsin getting end plates for the inter cooler, exhaust from the Downpipe back, intercooler piping, and brackets made for the V mount. Currently awaiting the arrival of CSF radiator and Turbo Smart Waste gate and BOV.

Original Post:
I know what you are thinking that sounds like it's going to explode almost instantly or over heat right away. Looking over failed and successful builds over the last year or two and I think we have addressed the major problems. Heat and reliability

We all know turbos create a lot of heat but with a v mount set up, oil cooler, and lots of heat wrap we believe this will last for 30 minute sessions oh and e85.

Reliability we feel that most builds don't have a reliable engine builder and tuner or one of those two were bad and well boom. We have eliminated that with a built short block from inline pro.

Turbo we will be going with a gtx35, turbo kit will be the new doc race kit. Like I stated above we will be using a inline pro 2.0 short block so mid range should be fairly insane! This will be a time attack car but with a little twist I don't have a trailer......so it will be driven to the track......yeah I'm Crazy I know but crazy enough that you want to see what happens!

So the dilemma now I'm facing is what to do about a trans and diff I'm not to sure if they can hold 450-500whp.

Also forgot to mention this will be a slow process because we want to get everything right the first time and if it all goes wrong we still have a stock f20 to put in so we don't miss the 2015 season.

Here is a photo of how the car kinda sits now just for your viewing entertainment

For sure put crazy fasteners on every bolt that sees heat from turbo. Suckers love backing out. I've had the IP built block and those guys go the extra mile to help you out should anything go wrong so good choice. What season of racing will you be in? I have to feel road racing will be less abuse on trans/diff than AutoX. Driver will make a huge difference in breaking trans/diff. Careful monitoring of all temps can help you big time in reliability. Also VERY important after you get car dyno tuned; you need the tuner to go to a track with you and complete with a road tune. This will go a LONG ways at making the tune safe.

And yes you are crazy, good luck!

Devin,

The trans and rear end can hold the power for road racing.. The issue lies with launching or missing a shift. As long as you stay away from that you will be fine. Also I would suggest wherever you mount the oil cooler that you make sure there is direct air flow to it. you have seen my car, My oil cooler is directly behind 1 of the cut outs in the front bumper.

I can't wait to see this thing come along. I really do wish you the best of luck in this. Hopefully we will meet at one of the time attack races next year.

The guys who raced boosted S2000s in SCCA lost stock trannies and diffs regularly.
Good luck with your build. I think you'll find that it is a very challenging one.

You sound like you want to build my exact setup. I just finished my f24 turbo build. I'm using the track forged manifold when looks just the doc manifold and I'm also useing a gtx3576r turbo. Although my car does great on the street, autocross and drag racing, I'm 99% sure my car would not last 2 laps on a track before it would over heat and everything in the engine bay wold melt.

Inlinepro has been helping a lot and they seem just as excited about this as i am, which usually means good things. This will be mainly a time attack/ time trials car so no longer then 30 minutes on track which i did make that seem like not a lot of time for a turbo car. I've seen people break trans on simple up shifts but i might have to baby it? I dont know im still doing more research into it. inlinepro said my puddy mod diff should hold up as long as i dont lunch the car which would make no sense to do. Great for me is that my tuner is a road course guy as well so he will be there. he has tuned a lot of the honda challenge cars in in the south region for nasa, and wynn who was pretty dominate in TTB in his s2k well until nationals and those turbo missiles where a factor.

I havent missed shifted yet on track *knock on wood* but ive also blown up a diff, but then again i did try drifting and doing a burnout lol I find that its easier to shift with a shifter extension. Thats another thing i have brake ducts in those to sluts so im thinking that im going to use one of those slots for both brake ducts and the other for the oil cooler. Worse case scenario I'll make a new vent with a nasa duct or something.

Devin, if you haven't yet, bug slinkydog here on the forums. He's TT'd and raced a FI S2000 in about every configuration possible (and broken about everything possible).

I look forward to seeing your build, as I will be doing a similar build for NASA TT3 over the course of the next year. I am interested to hear more about this Doc Race turbo kit. Will you be going V mount for your intercooler?
