Default Tire sizes... let's re-open this can of worms

Well, before we all agreed the 275 rear and 235 front on ce-28n's (7.5" front and 9" rear) was the way to go. But, as the Dude would say, new sh!t has come to light, man.

Rob was running 255's all around on 17 x 9 + 63's last time I saw him and that seemed to be working quite well.

My current tires are totally dead, so I'm looking to order a new set of wheels and tires before the big willow event later this month (yes, I'm actually going to start coming to events again!).

I'm planning to order 17 x 9 + 63 wheels (looks like I can get a hook-up on the Buddy Club P1 Racing QF forged wheels).

So the question is what size tires should I use? 255? 275? Stagger with 275 rear and 255 front?

Also, does anyone know if the new Nitto tire is worthwhile? Or are the RA-1s still the way to go?

If you care about rules, you have to either run a 235/275 or 255/255 to stay in MOD/PROD.

255/275 will bump you to UL.

I thought that rule was gone this year and it's just a 275 max rear now.

I rechecked and couldn't find the JMac 510mm restriction I thought I had read. Perhaps the rules were ammended.

I guess it looks like as wide as what will fit up front 255-275?

Yeah, the rule says only that the rear has to be no more than 275.

I think 275's in the front will rub. 275's are taller than 255's. I'd run 255's all around like Rob. Alex (Honda Legend) runs I believe 245 16's all around in Honda Cup and he's embarrassingly fast .

BTW, if you go equal all corners you will definitely need a wing.

Nitto has no 255/17 tire. You could try 245/275 setup on Nittos? I think Rob has picked up a set of 245 Nittos all around.

I would do 255/275.

Note that the rear will be 2/3" taller than front, though might not be a problem.

Hmmm... I'd like to keep the gearing correct, so the 255 option is attractive, but I can't afford a wing and I think it end up being will be an issue at speed.

Might have to settle for the gearing detriment of the 275s.

Go with 255/275 and soften the rear (and/or stiffen the front).
