Gas mileage is not an issue when towing a trailer; you'll notice little or no difference, if you drive carefully.

For those of you with the Chase Race Hitch, what size receiver did you purchase to accept the ball hitch? Also what size ball do these trailers usually use?

I would think this to have more to do with how whatever you are attaching to the car to tow the trailer. I have seen some pictures while researching what hitch to buy, where the attachment point in the trunk had begun to tear out.
Conedodger and I have the Gendron hitch, which has had some trunk bottom issues for some folks. Both of us have installed a piece of sheet metal inside the trunk so the trunk material is sandwiched between the flat hitch section on the outside and the plate inside. No evidence whatsoever of tear-through going on. The load is distributed far wider than what's possible by the originally supplied fender washers...

If you get the HF trailer with the 12 in wheels you will need the largest rise drawbar you can find. I found a 2 5/8 rise and the U Haul guy said that 2 5/8 is the tallest rise they made.

1 1/4 reciever
3/4 ball

My tiny garage is pretty packed and I can't really afford the space along a wall for my trailer so I was considering hoisting it to the ceiling.

Has anyone tried hoisting one of these trailers?

I plan on hoisting it from the axle then resting the back on a shelf and tying off the tongue with a second rope.

I plan on skipping the box and other extras to keep the weight and height down. I'm guessing it will be <130 in its hoisted configuration and no taller than the fenders.

Thoughts?

The "receiver" is part of the hitch itself.

The ball is a 1-7/8" ball.

My ball mount has almost no rise (I have the large wheels on the trailer). I don't know how you quantify it, but my ball mount just has a half-inch thick plate welded on top of the square bar, and the ball mounted on that.

As to storing it by hoisting it from the ceiling, I wouldn't do that. Just store it outside (if you have a yard), and cover it with a tarp if you're worried about it getting damaged by the elements. But the consequences of it pulling itself off a ceiling mount aren't worth the benefits, IMO. YMMV

I put the tires in the back of the trailer, so when I remove the tires the tongue doesn't fly up in the air. The toolbox keeps the weight on the front.
I put the tires on the front of the trailer. That way there is sufficient tongue weight when you're driving to an event even if there isn't much in the box.

How heavy and long of a trailer can you tow safely with an s2000? I really want a tire trailer, but I would really like to build/buy one long enough capable of hauling (with another car) an FJ Kart which weighs less than 300lbs.
I'll reiterate that the S2000 is not designed to pull a trailer.

If you chose to do so, the lighter, the better.
