Default Track car engine oil change

Hey guys,

Last season, I changed my engine oil with Redline oil almost everytime before a track day. It got quite expensive as I went for many track days, so i am reconsidering of doing the same thing this year..

How often do you guys change your engine oil? I still drive my car on the street, and I probably go to 4 track days a month (around once a week). Do I need to change my oil before every track day? Or once every 2 track days? or ... ?

Thanks guys,

Bill

I did it every month or two or 3000 miles, whichever came first.

When my car was dual use street/track, I changed it about every 5000 miles, regardless of track usage. No ill effects I've ever seen. Also, my policy was usually to change just after a track day rather than just before.

Now I'll probably go to more of an "every X track days" type of thing, but it's not likely to be as few as four. More likely closer to eight.

Changing every track day is WAY too expensive, and I've never seen any evidence it is necessary.

With the excellent synthetic oils that are avalible now, IE, german castrol, amsoil, redline, or motoul, you can run all season on one oil change. You can run 40 weight if your tracking on a hot day. I would go no more than 5k OCI to be safe.

If your tracking hard, I wouldn't put much more than 12 hours of hard running on the engine oil.

So, if your doing 2 1/2 hours per day on track, then 4-5 track event's (HPDE's) would be a good interval.

If your using racing oil, (non detergent) it wouldn't be good to leave in the engine for any extended amount of time.

I'd have it analyzed so there's no guessing...
