I, for one, am not happy that my boot melted away.
And that is a perfectly acceptable reason to buy a bbk

I'm still trying to figure out why the brembo kit is ~700 dollars more than the stoptech kit. Seems to be nearly identical hardware.

Is the brembo kit better than the stoptech kit in anyway?

I was told the brembo kit will ship in 48hrs, the stoptech kit in several weeks.

We've been running ours as a T3 car on stock calipers and rotors with no ducting for 3-4 seasons with the boots long melted off. The biggest issues I have is the pads wearing at an angle which seems to be getting worse with age. Brakes still work but surprise you more and more often with a very low pedal. My old Showroom Stock Civic did the same thing after a couple seasons on the calipers it would happen faster and faster on new pads (Mini also did the same, I think it's a result of racing on a single piston caliper and it bends over time). Replace calipers all is fine. The new class allows upgrade to a BBK so I've got stoptech's in the mail, looking forward to real brakes and ducting soon.

My pads were wearing at an angle as well, albeit slight.

I'm glad you mentioned the long peddle. That's prob the single biggest factor that lead me to order the BBK. My peddle was going to the the floor after two sessions at CMP, and wouldn't pump up. When I got home I found the driver side piston extended alarmingly far out and the pads were shot.

There seems to be enough flex in the stock caliper that a significant proportion of the pad surface is making a minimal contribution.

Thank you all for the input.

I'm leaning towards the Stoptech kit, though I downloaded their template and learned I will need a 10mm spacer. Is it safe to track a car with a spacer? Also, will it change the handling in some negative way? I don't want to solve one problem and create a bigger one.

The wheels are the OZ Allegerita's sold on Tirerack. 17 X 7.5 front with 48 offset. 17 X 8.5 rear with 59 offset.

10mm is probably fine for stock studs. The wheel bearing argument is not that significant since all the 10" wide 255's with wider offsets puts a lot more 'stress' on the wheel bearing than a 7.5" +48 front wheel with a 10mm spacer. The S2K wheel bearings are not known to be an issue so it's more/less irrelevant.

Many Grand-Am CTSCC, Speed WC, and various other professional racing series use wheel spacers. They will be fine, get them and run your ST BBK and have fun.

Yes, Spracerut, that was me at Streets a few weeks back. Thank you for the reply.

Also, thank you BillyJ! I've searched these forums and there's much controversy about the spacer issue. Your comments are succinct and very reassuring. Thank you!

Krazik. I appreciate the confirmation from you. It's been several years since we've seen each other at a Buttonwillow or Big Willow SV event. I attended in those days with my son who drove a white Civic. I hope to get to the fine tracks up north this year. If so, I’ll be sure to say hello.

Happy New Year guys!
