Default Video camera question

I finally bought a camera for use in my car on the track. All seems to be excellent, except for one thing: I expected that there would be a light on the front of the camera, telling me that it is recording, but there isn't. I have a remote, with which I can start it before we start our engines in pre-grid, but I don't have any idea how I can be sure that it actually started.

Any suggestions? It's a Sony DCR SR62 Camcorder.

Thanks.

With my Sony, I flip the LCD screen around where I can see it... it lets me know if it is on REC or not. I also made sure the beep sound is enabled so I know that I toggled it to record or pause.

Good thought; I assume that this screen will flip around, so I can use that to see status, then close it up before going onto the track.

The beep sound is enabled, but I'm not confident that it will carry above all the ambient noise, especially if the car's on.

Thanks!

I can hear my Canon Elura 100's beep while gridding through my helmet at my autox's, but I usually turn the lcd screen around and check for the symbol too.

Which camera did you get and how much, including the mount?

I'm in the mood for getting one if the price is right.

Another good reason for doing that is to verify that you're actually capturing what you want to see. One time, I was lowering the top while the camera was on, and I guess it caught the soom lever on its way down. I ended up with an entire session at max zoom, so I saw a 8-ft square piece of pavement about 40 feet in front of the car. Not very entertaining.

The better question to ask would be how do you know what mount to buy to hook up to the interior of our cars?

^ That's only a better question if he doesn't already know the answer.

I use one made by MGRacing or MPRacing or something like that. It works well, and can support up to 3 cameras (though I've never used more than one.

It mounts using the existing holes for the windscreen (atop the secret compartment).

Also, www.modifry.com, sells a camera mount that's relatively cheap, easy to install and looks nice. Check it out at modifry's website.
