Good thought; I assume that this screen will flip around, so I can use that to see status, then close it up before going onto the track.
I believe all the recent LCD camcorders allow the screen to be flipped around... but I could be wrong. One bad thing about my LCD screen is with my sunglasses, it is sometimes difficult to see the screen.

BTW, have you thought about getting a LANC controller to control your camcorder (if it has one)? I absolutely love mine as if it goes into standby mode, I used to have to switch it off and back on in a contortion like position. With LANC controller, it can take it in and out of standby mode. Something to consider...

Which camera did you get and how much, including the mount?

I'm in the mood for getting one if the price is right.
I have a black (or is it gun metal... it matches the interior very well) mount that I bought from Rick's when he was selling the Ztecindustries mount. IMO, it is the best looking, functional, and professional mount out there.

Here is ztec's site:

Here is some more pics:

I am willing to sell mine for $100 with the mount and quick release.

Let me know if you are interested:

I'm 99.9% sure it is just a standard connection (quick release on top of that) as it works with my Cannon 10D DSLR, Canon Rebel XT DSLR, and my Sony camcorder.

I did switch to Modifry's mount only to remain AS legal (removal of windscreen at Nationals might be frowned on... being a weenie protest). Modifry's mount is a good one, but not as sturdy as the one I bought from Rick's.

Well, that worked fine. But the camera didn't. It kept shutting off as soon as I entered the track. First, that was because the automatic shutoff was on (default setting), but now I don't know why (it's a pity; it missed catching an eye-opening crash right in front of me in yesterday's race). It goes back to Costco, and I'll try another camera.

I am picking up a batch of these mounts tomorrow and will have them back in stock, I have to fill a couple back orders but will have them again!

This is a great mount if you are using a camcorder/radar detector and there are less expensive mounts if you are using bullet cameras!

Is anyone else using a modifry mount at the track? If so, what are you using for a backup retaining system?

I've got one and used it on my first track event -- worked great with good sound and stable video. I tied the camera off to one of the roll hoops as a backup, which was sufficient to get through tech. At the last run of the day, though, one of the officials gave me grief about the camera since the backup tie still allowed the camera to move in the event the mount broke (my thought: well, duh, that's why it's a backup system).

I'm just wondering if there is a more elegant backup solution, or if I should plan on tying off the camera to both roll hoops as a backup -- that way it can't move left or right. Or assume that the one official was just an ass and stick to my original solution.

I've never had any issue at HPDEs with just using the mount by itself. No backup attachment system required. Not sure about actual races, though.
