You also have aftermarket fenders both front and rear.

10"+55 is the sweet spot up front with a 255 for inner and outer clearance with basic fender roll and a little pull if needed depending on ride height and camber alignment. +50 and +45 can work if your willing to really pull the fenders good and run a lot of camber. -3 -3.5 etc

Thanks for all the input guys.

So here is another question for you all, again this is in reference to the track and performance:

16lb wheels, 17x9 255 vs 20lb wheels, 17x10 255?

assuming same tires....which is faster? Is that 4 lb corner weight increase to an issue?

Cast wheels or forged wheels?

Cast wheels. I'll take the 20 lbs. 10" wheel as i assume durability will be better (yes, i know that the casting process plays a role, flow formed, rotary "forged", etc. etc. and that spoke design will also play a role). are you comparing the same model wheel offered in different sizes, or cross shopping wheel manufactures and designs?

For consistency and feel, the edge also goes to the 10". General rule is that 1" of extra wheel width is equal to about 0.5s-0.75s lap on a 2:00min lap track (same tire specs obviously - wheel width being the only variable).

Old miata comparison of the same wheel in 15x7 (13 lbs.) versus 15x8 (15.6 lbs.)

Yes different wheels. I am comparing 17x9 +63 Volks vs SA72R 17x10 +55.

the wedssports are close to 20 lbs and cast vs Volks 16 and forged.

That's a no-brainer for me since i'm certain that those Volks don't have BBK clearance.
I'd get the SA72R over that spec of volks.

Another good option are Titan 7 wheels.

17x9.5 +51
16.8 lbs. - Forged
BBK clearance
<$2K for a set - best price for forged wheels

I ran this setup with stock front fenders with a roll NOT pull. The rears have been rolled only w/rear bumper tabs relocated. I put the over fenders over the stock body without cutting.

I have ce28's in 17x9 +63. i needed a 10mm spacer to clear stoptech c43's. Of course rolled , no pull.
The newer ce28sl's clear spoon calipers without spacers.

I do plan to move to the weds in 17x10, the 17x10 +50 rota's dont clear the c43''s.

Yeah if you are running the SPC joint in the rear like you, there is additional clearance since you're tucking in the upper potion of the tire. Could also offset the upper arm with bushings. Stock rear I don't think there is a way to fit a 10" at +40.

If your running the spc or other adjustable upper control arms, you can get about 12-15mm added range inside to outside/track width for wheel fitment. You can reduce the lower stock camber for max positive and use the upper joint to adjust negative camber and get the most outside clearance on an aggressive wheel, or alternatively go the other direction, pushing out/max track width, full neg camber on lower arm and positive on upper. You definitely have more wheel fitment forgiveness with the upper adjustable control arm, front or rear.
