Meh. I have to run with the top down and stock seats and there isn't that much turbulence, use the boot cover if it bugs you.

Well it begs a bigger question: are the two OEM spoilers even functional? The "lip" type spoiler that sits really low, and the bigger "wing" might not even do anything except look cool.

The CR wing DOES work, but in conjunction with the front chin spoiler. It's a system.

And by extension, how fast do you need to be traveling to get any useable downforce? I remember reading that the Integra Type R's front lip + rear spoiler added 20% more downforce, but that was at freeway speeds. Around town it probably doesn't do anything.

I did a track day in my '02 last Friday with the top up b/c it was so freakin' windy outside. Not sure about my max airspeed (no more than 120mph) was but it wasn't that loud with a helmet on. The rear window flapped around a bit but otherwise everything seemed fine.

The OEM spoilers are, indeed, spoilers and not wings. The basic difference being that a rear spoiler attempts to diffuse the air flowing around the car and decrease drag whereas a wing uses air flowing over both side to create lift (downforce). Unfortunately, they aren't even good spoilers, since the flow does not seem to be attached to the rear lid with any top configuration.

What you said does not make physical or aerodynamic sense. I don't think you're trying to say that the chin spoiler directs the flow of air on to the rear wing. Without that situation, either the pieces make downforce individually or they don't. The pieces may work together as a system to lower your lap times, but their aerodynamic effectiveness is nearly 100% independent.

When my car was a normal street car, it was my preference to run on the track with the top down as often as possible. This had nothing to do with aerodynamics, I just enjoyed it. But as you note, occasionally weather or other factors came in to play.

Yes, what I'm saying is that they've picked those two parts to work together. It's true that the front lip has nothing to do with the downforce generated by the rear wing, but they sculpted it to provide appropriate downforce up front.

Otherwise it'd be way too much in back or way too much in front, etc.
